Computer blew up:(

Postby Hazza » Sun Jan 06, 2008 4:56 pm

Ok Techies, anyone in Larnaca or Nicosia that can fix a computer that blew up??

My one popped early this morning, a loud bang. Changed the power supply on it, but still can't get it to work. Anyone fancy taking a look to see if they can sort it out for me? I have a feeling its taken out the Motherboard and Graphics card, though need confirmation of that if possible.

Cheers.

I do Jo, a Belkin lifetime warranty on their surge protection trail extention. Its actually my own fault as I knew the power supply was on its way out. Got a high pitch noise coming out of it for a while now. Even when the computer was off, the high pitch noise was there. Only went away when the switch on the power supply was off. Last night, didn't switch off the switch.

Ironic that I bought a new power supply yesterday but didn't get the chance to put it on.

Hate this laptop. Can't get used to it.

If the computer system has a real make (e.g. Dell, HP, Sony etc.) and was not created from separate parts you have another option.

Ring the manufacturer of the system, most manufacturers function in some form or another in Cyprus, then voice your concern. Personally I would not trust anybody who is not affiliated to the manufacturer of the specified system to open it up.

Ask advice from them as well so this problem never happens again. I have seen dodge self-proclaimed IT guru's giving bad advice and many believe their cr*p and pay for it too.

I wish you the best of luck.

put your computer in a geek's hands, he'll be able to tell every web site you've ever been to.

yup, just go buy a new one, and save yourself the embarrassment.

At least you have the laptop to fall back to Hassa ~~ it could have been a real disaster if it was your only machine :(

Best of luck with the repairs ~~ I've only got a laptop so I can't help you .

Unfortunately, its a machine put together by a mate of mine in the UK, mainly ASUS parts. Though its alot cheaper buying the parts seperately, might be better off buying a "make" PC this time around with an extended warranty, just to be on the safe side.

Are Dells any good does anyone know? If I put another HDD in a Dell, a SATA drive, will it invalidate the warranty??
