You are right, it does not start if it has no battery. The thing is that I saw the mainboard... and it's burned up (it's a little smoked up near the display's connector). I don't know if with another battery could start, but really I haven't tryed, YET.

This guy should have tryed, 'cause I've got the laptop to the IBM dedicated service. But I really don't know, when I see his face he looks confused, I don't think he knows what he's doing, hope he didn't f*cked it up more.

I'm gonna tell him to assemble it back up and I will try to fix it. These guys don't know sh*t. I hopefully find another mainboard on e-bay. 8)

Hmmm..."a little smoked up near the display's connector" does not sound good at all but without seeing it myself I can not comment on it.

Good luck in your hunt for another MB.

JoJo wrote:Where do I start. My husband has worked for quite a few PC Shops in the past but has quit due to the things they do to the customers. Most people go to a Koumbaro beacuse they think they are getting a good deal but in the end most get sold junk at double the price. Alot of people are ignorant and they believe anything they are told. At one shop the graphics card driver needed updating and they told the customer that the PC had blown ..wait for it..from a virus. I could go on all day. The thing is when people do find a computer technician, they do not trust them, and they go back to people that rip them off all the time. There are too many shoddy technicians out thee. But as long as people keep going back, these businesses will survive.

i don't get it--don't they have a better business bureau there in CY or some kind of government agency to complain to about this? someone who regulates workmanship? No "shame on you" segmanets on the news, where the local news teams goes in and rats on some slimebag who is doing untrustworthy business transactions?

Thanks everyone for the info/support/help. Decided to bite the bullet and buy a new one. Went to the Dell website but they didn't have prices. Looked at the reseller for Cyprus so thought I'd check their website which was down/offline, so gave up on Dell and am going with a HP. Should have it by the end of the week (assuming they have it in stock).

Lena mou, wish I could say you gave me the kiss of death there :D

You definitely made the right decision and saved yourself days of fruitless tinkering with your old PC.

If you are lucky you may even be able to recover some files from your old hard drive too…

I have three HP/Compaq workstations and an HP portable… (plus a load of other stuff) I’ve been involved with the company since before PC’s were invented.
