Hazza... you know what I was thinking ... after meeting you ... you had this technology accident ... the year has changed... maybe the unluckiness that I had with technology is passed to you now :D

Hope you sort it out soon.

I guess I am another unlucky for this year start. My IBM T43 is dead. :(
Got it to the service, they look at me like I'm talking about UFO.

The guy there after opened it, said the mb, battery, keyboard and some sort of connector to the display are dead. I've asked to test my display and he just said he can't. WTF? Then a few days ago I've called back and he said he has another laptop to test the display, and then he will make me a price.

Damn I loved my T43. :(

Anyone knows where I can go, somewhere where people really know what they are doing, not just walking in the dark asking me what to do, as if I was the engineer there (and I'm not).

I think the guy you spoke to was just guessing and doesn't know much about LapTops. If the MB is dead and unless he has got an identical one he can not test the keyboard or the display.

I'm not sure about the IBM T43 but some LapTops will not power up if the main battery is dead, even though the PSU is plugged in and working. These LapTops use the battery as the main source of power and the PSU is used to charge the battery whereas other Laptops use the PSU to both run the LapTop and charge the battery at the same time. I suggest you read the "Trouble shooting guide" in your user instruction booklet to see if your IBM is one of those that use the battery, if it is then maybe it's just the battery and not what the guy told you.

Alternatively, if you know anyone who has the same LapTop as you ask him/her to take the battery out and power it up. BUT ONLY DO THIS WHEN THE LAPTOP IS OFF otherwise he/she can damage his/her LapTop.

If it fires up then the IBM T43 does not belong in the first group I mentioned above, if it doesn't then borrow the battery and try and fire your one up. If it works then all you need is a new battery if not then buying a new LapTop would probably be as cheap or as dear as the repair costs on your one.

Thx man. You know, I'm not new in this either. The fact is that I've assembled a lot of computers, but not laptops. At this chapter I've only documented myself, not to distroy it.

You are right, it does not start if it has no battery. The thing is that I saw the mainboard... and it's burned up (it's a little smoked up near the display's connector). I don't know if with another battery could start, but really I haven't tryed, YET.

This guy should have tryed, 'cause I've got the laptop to the IBM dedicated service. But I really don't know, when I see his face he looks confused, I don't think he knows what he's doing, hope he didn't f*cked it up more.

I'm gonna tell him to assemble it back up and I will try to fix it. These guys don't know sh*t. I hopefully find another mainboard on e-bay. 8)

Where do I start. My husband has worked for quite a few PC Shops in the past but has quit due to the things they do to the customers. Most people go to a Koumbaro beacuse they think they are getting a good deal but in the end most get sold junk at double the price. Alot of people are ignorant and they believe anything they are told. At one shop the graphics card driver needed updating and they told the customer that the PC had blown ..wait for it..from a virus. I could go on all day. The thing is when people do find a computer technician, they do not trust them, and they go back to people that rip them off all the time. There are too many shoddy technicians out thee. But as long as people keep going back, these businesses will survive.
