Problem at British Base RAF Akrotiri

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Sat Jan 05, 2008 8:47 pm

So, starting a new front, this time against Britain, is for the good of our people! They were right wing thugs and this was reported by the Minister of Interior Sophocleous himself, only this morning on radio.

Akrotiri will not be released, it is too valuable to the Americans, as is the Troodos radar. Do not ever underestimate the vindicitiveness of Britain. They will never forgive the fact that 200 EOKA peasant boys beat 45000 British soldiers. We will be paying for that for many years to come.

Unlike some Cypriots the Brits do not hold grudges and the British Govt has more on its mind than Cyprus. The majority of British people could not give a monkeys about what happened over half a century ago either. Unlike you they do not spend their days spouting jingoistic rhetoric

So Cyprus fought for its independence and good!! Its just a good job they had the Brits instead of the French considering that when Algeria fought for eight years for its independence over 1m people were killed and many many more were missing due to the French policy of bombing, retaliatory raids and deliberate terror tactics of rape, torture and abuse. The add on effect of people starving and disease added thousands more to the total amount of people lost through this fight for independence.
They eventually caved in to international pressure but the cost to the Algerians was phenominal

Having just researched this as far as I can tell the death total in Cyprus was
104 British Troops
84 Cypriots who speak Turkish
366 Cypriots who speak Greek which includes 200 killed by EOKA for opposing their cause.

There is nothing brave about war. There is nothing brave about two 22 year old men asking two unarmed British soldiers for water and then coming back and asking for more water a few hours later having seen that they were unarmed and then shooting and killing one of the soldiers who had a three year old son and whose wife was pregnant. Two of these young boys were hanged and the third who was with them given life in prison because he was only18. What a waste of those boys futures. All of them a terrible waste. None of these men deserve to be belittled whether it was the soldiers or the young boys filled with a patriotic fervour which led them to the hangmans noose.

Atrocities occur on both sides, I am not niaive and understand that the British were not totally innocent and examples can be thrown up from both sides

BUT what I do know is that the majority of Brits do not give any thought about what happened so long ago. They have enough to do to live their everyday lives without holding any grief or grudges they have in front of them like a banner. Waving it for all to see. The wife of that soldier and his two children will have got on with their lives and they will not be speaking against the Cypriots or their country. Those soldiers had a job to do and they paid the ultimate price for doing it.

Also the Americans already have a listening post in the north of the Island and also a base close to the port of what they call Ceyhan, in Turkey's Incirlik air base. So as the Americans get closer to the Turkish regime the importance to them of the South of the island will decrease.

Maybe when things were going so swimmingly well back in 1974, you have to hand it to all those National Guard troops stopping the Turkish Army's advance south and possibly over running the SBA's. The Brits must have been quaking in their boots!

Or did the Turkish High Command get a message along the lines, "No further, or we intervene?"

Suppose the SBA's had gone by 1974? Any ideas what the main language of this Forum might be now?

Would you have said that these patriotic fools that fought with the ENglish against the Germans were also patriotic fools? Were they killed in vain?

The problem you have is that fightng for your country's liberty is the exception to the rule. Most wars the UK has fought have been regarding lands that the ENglish had no business being there to begin with.

We fought against a conqueror and teenagers died for that Just like they died when they fought against the Nazis by enlisting with the Enlgish.

WHo the hell are you to disrespect our country's heroes?

rawk, if somebody raped your mother would you thank him for giving you the chance of having a sibling to play with?

A wrong action is a wrong action. Trying to find nice things about it to excuse it doesn't make it any less wrong.

The fact is that Britain was a colonial power that occupied foreign lands for the sole reason of exploiting them and serving her own interests. Until the early 1900s this used to be the norm and that offers some excuse. But there is no excuse that today the UK still has part of Cyprus under colonial rule.

I think it is. The UK should know that their support to Turkey against us will not be without a cost for them.

They got the bases because they were supposedly a guarantor that guaranteed the independence and sovereignty of our country. Not only they didn't do that, but on the contrary they collaborated with Turkey to violate the sovereignty of Cyprus.

iWELL SAID ... have to agree on this information ,,,I MET SOME OF THEM TODAY FOR A NICE CHAT ...being somewhat unsurprised two of them told me they were paid a certain polilitical group and politician,,,(1 GUESS WHO ) OK .,,,some of them were communists and others facists but all very confused students ....paid ,i repeat ....paid ...

also fascinatiing is that none of them are actually greek but cyps who propose enosis WITH GREECE AND SUPPORT APOEL (D.T )and wAat all foreigners out ,,,hehehehehe and that includes english cyps like me ...a 20 minute discussion with me today and half of them have decided to never do so again ...(10 OF THEM)

now no guesses who put them up to this event ....

this is total and utter waste of time ...BRITAIN /U.S will never leave cyprus and now france too is over here scouting possiblies to use paphos a stage ground for military coms in the area ...cyprus needs to get you to this ,.,,better still is the fact that a modern army here in cyprus going pro will eventally need the U.K FOR TRAINING (my recommendation )

cypriots need to wake up ,..cyprus is the cross roads for these nations ...let go of the past ,,,every major nation has made mistakes ,,,yes ,,,made mistakes ,,,now we need to move on and learn ,,,just like our cousins the TURKS...

may i also point out ,that many greek and turkish cypriots work and benefit from the excellent facitlies and structured staff/skills development programs offered by the British/U.N /U.S here in cyprus

CYTA itself has $28million development contract with H.M.AKROTIRI ....

So before we start telling the brits to leave ...remember the 1000s who work there ,..and might i add are probably the only cypriots on the island who get a wage that actually goes up with inflation and yearly adjustments unlike 65% of the southern population ,who have been recieving the same wage for 10 years

now everyone ...vote DISY/KATSOLIDIES .....what ever his name is and kill a commie ,...sorry dont vote for them ,,,

OXI TO COMMIES ,DIKO ..THIEVES .,...
