Once Upon a Time there was an island called Cyprus...

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Phoenix mou, its not the 'majority rights' that is the problem, it is 'majority rule' which makes us see red. When the Pillars of Democracy was worded, they had not reckoned how GCs would use it..

You might be right on this one, they had turkey in mind...a prime example of what the pillars of democracy are based on...

Ofcourse they had Asia minor in mind. It was part of the Greek world then. It was devised to rule all the lands populations and make them subservient to the greeks.

Deniz, write to the US government and tell them to modify this paragraph:

These elements define the fundamental elements of all modern democracies, no matter how varied in history, culture, and economy. Despite their enormous differences as nations and societies, the essential elements of constitutional government--majority rule coupled with individual and minority rights, and the rule of law--can be found in Canada and Costa Rica, France and Botswana, Japan and India.

Tell them to add the one exception: "The evil Greek Cypriots"

TCs are not the only minority in Cyprus. Why don't the Armenians, Latins and Maronites have a problem with democracy in Cyprus?

The difference is that they respected the democratic principles including majority rule, and in the same way they got respect for their minority rights.

When was it that you respected the Majority rule right of Cypriots? When you oppressed the whole Cypriot people for 4 centuries, or when you sided with the colonialists to force on us some agreement that deprived Cyprus from this main democratic principle?

The other minorities have 'elected' to be classified as 'greek Cypriots'.

I am merely pointing out that the word itself is like a red rag. TCs will see it as the majoriy - GCs - RULE over the TCs. This is clearly what they will not accept. This has been the focus of most of the arguments on this forum ever since I arrived and before. I will write to my mate A. Lincoln and ask him to change the wording then. OK?

You are spot on Deniz due to mistrust of GCs administering democracy and human rights to TCs no TC will accept being just a minority in a GC state. Are you GCs having problems understanding this fact? or does it not suit your ultimate goal to rule supreme and dominate the whole island.

If I have to think that far back, I have a problem. If my ancestors were the original Ottoman soldiers, were they Jannisary's/Yeniceri? If that is the case I might have a bit of Balkan / Slav or Circassian blood in me. If I am descended from settlers from Anatolia, I could have Turkmen blood in me or Hittite, or Greek/Roman, Frigian , Lydian, Mongol, you name it I got it.

Boomer stop asking these questions. I am a ruddy Turkish Cypriot, thats all that matters. Your going to have me asking you the same.

Yes I did, didnt I. The possibility is that my ancestors could have been from anywhere that I mentioned, but most likely Cypriot with a smuttering of the peoples that I mention. How can one tell, without the DNA profile. We could ask Phoenix, but she might be otherwise occupied (by reading her bed-time books)

Pheonix has given me permission to answer for her, on another thread, in her absence. She asked me to tell you that she is busy at the moment but she will be back soon and she loves you all very much and also said that she was sorry for being such an ass all this time and she was only joking about the Turks. She said to say that she isn't even Greek but a Turkish movie star trying to get publicity for her new film, the Turkish version of "Shrek" called "Esek". It will simultaneously be released in Isreal under the name "Shmuch".

When I told her that I have traced my fathers side to the Russian Steps she said "Pah! It doesn't matter my brother. We are all one people and we should just all live together in two separate states as good neighbours". Then she left but not before telling me that my grandfather must have been an orangoutang.
