I'm thinking of installing Econo-Heat electric panel heaters in my 2 bedroom townhouse.Anybody used them or know if they can be recommended?

Any guidance greatly appreciated.

PS I don't have a flue.

We had a big debate about them ion here some time ago… If I remember correctly it seemed that the claims for them (heat output versus running costs) were somewhat exaggerated…

I asked about them in the past and they told me that it takes on average 1 hour to heat a 3mX2m room but its cost efficient . Also its not recommended for heavy winters. Also you need to drill the holes on the wall for the panels to be fixed. The cost was 56 Cy pounds per panel.

We installed them in our 3 bedrooms, one each in the smaller rooms(approx 3x3) and two in the main bedroom. We do keep them on all night, as we have two small children and so far we are very happy with them. They were easy to install and keep the rooms warm. Have not had an electricity bill as yet though, so I am just hoping that the claims of economy are correct!! but the costs are alway cheaper than being off work or doctors costs due to damp/cold etc.

The claims relating to these panels seem too good to be true, it will be interesting to hear your views after you receive your electricity bill.

Who knows, if the facts are correct they should not be that bad when receiving your bills. I remember a while back when I started a thread on relating to heating yourself in Cyprus. We came to the conclusion that good house insulation is the key. If your house is well insulated you will save a bundle on your bills without such devices.

My relatives have recently built a new house, the first thing I noticed was how shockingly bad the windows and doors were, there were small gaps even when closed. So just think, even when supposedly your house is closed cold/hot wind will still be getting in. If you notice the sliding doors that just slide left and right without going in or out have terrible insulation, and whats laughable is that most people in Cyprus have them.

Coming to think of it, does anybody here (preferably living in Cyprus) have sliding doors inside that go in and out before going right and left to close as to completely prevent air coming inside. I welcome any comments.

Just to give you guys some idea..The wattage's above are the same as leaving on 3 to 4 lightbulbs so it is true that they do not draw much current but they will also not be any good in really cold conditions. If they are thermostatically controlled then if the room doesn't reach the set temperature they will never switch off because they will never bring the room to the required temperature. These low wattage heaters are used only in Green Houses in the UK to keep out the frost.

Has anyone looked into these underground heat reclaimers. They work like a fridge in that they take out the heat from the ground and put it into your home. I don't know much about them but they seem like a good idea for a place like Cyprus?????
