Electricity and water connection

Postby EasyE » Wed Jan 02, 2008 10:21 pm

Just a quick question. How long does it take the water board and electricty provider to connect their services to your property

We are over in a couple of weeks and need to arrange water and electricty for our place and was wondering how long it takes.

If it already had these services before, then it's a matter of a day or two.

Sorry EasyE, in this case I wouldn't know. I would think the seller should have connected all these before and then transfered it to your name when you walked in.

EasyE,

if you bught froma developer, you could have given him power of attorney and he would have arranged it for you.

If you have anyone else with such power they can do it too.

Failing that, when you go to the electricity board, depending on your area, it takes about a week for connection after signing the necessary paperwork.

If you give them a little crybaby story about having kids etc, they may make it quicker.

The water is usually organised by the village council or i guess if you are in town the town council, again this can be done in a matter of a few days, depends on the area.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

POA wouldn't help us as we have to meet up with the developer to run through the snagging list etc. Cyprus being Cyprus and sigar sigar and all that do you reckon one week is about right or could it stretch to two?

We don't have kids you see, although I could fib!

When I bought my appartment, it was a new development, I'm pretty sure that there was already running water in the appartment, I just needed to transfer it to my name. The electricity, I went with the developer and had it connected within 48 hours, along with some of the other appartments in the block.

No easy answer I’m afraid EasyE…

Water should be connected and metered… I’ve never seen a property that didn’t have this facility so it is just a case of settling the bill with the village office. They’ll probably argue about the cost of the meter which should have been paid by the developer.

Lecky is more complex. In our small development of seven houses we were made to jump through all sorts of hoops and go to the office to arrange it (luckily a Cypriot friend worked there so it was done next day) while other houses in the development (even the last one which is not sold had it all done by the developer.

As with many things Cypriot they seem to make it up as they go along…

ELECTRICTY isnt a problem developer should arrange for u temporary electricity by the time electricity authority comes in do inspection and put electricity its a normal practice same is the case with water if ur developer has asked u come in cyprus he must arrange temprory electricity.electrician of the developer will arrange this but only drawback is that u wouldnt be able to run a/c or oven etc.it will be ok for lights and sockets etc. because of the amperes u will get wouldnt be enough to take load of many appliances.hope u got what to do.
