The trouble is, Eric, is that they cannot - or will not - see that.

They'll wake up to reality one day Dean and smell the Turkish coffee....hang on a minute...... they do smell the Turkish coffee, right across the Green Line each and everyday of the year and see the massive Turkish flags and know that there is a country called the TRNC and that there is absolutely nothing they can do about it.

zan wrote:Cyprus president hopes for solution for divided island in 2008

In his New Year message, Papadopoulos said, "We look forward, with faith and optimism, to ensuring peace and safety in our divided country through a truly viable and functional solution to our national problem that will reunite our people and our land."

"We hope that in the year 2008, such a solution will become a reality and a permanent situation for the benefit of the entire people of Cyprus, both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots," said the president.

If he means it.....And I doubt very much he does.....Is he know going against the likes of Pirtis, GR, Phoenix and Kifeas. After all...He says he is going to work for all the people in Cyprus and not just the GCs
as he has done so far......Goes against what all the above have been saying if he is now changing his tune doesn't it??? I for one hope it's true but it is too close to the elections for my liking

Well Zan this is exactly what I was hoping for 8) . . . . Tpap is ready to mobilise the solution... Which as we all know, has nothing to do with permanent partition and everything to do with removing the Turkish troops and restoring the the ethnically cleansed Cypriots in their rightful homes.

Your interpretation has no bearing on what Tpap said in the above quote, nor what he stands for. Dig somewhere else

. . . and my cycle tour around my beloved Kyrenia is back on the cards for 2008 :D

Man o man....The christmas spirit must have been drunk with a brain bypass for a chaser........ Did I say anything about permanent partition here :? I said that I don't believe that he is interested in working for all the Cypriots and he proved me right when he said in another speech that he thinks that time will seal partition and his hopes are with a Hellenic Cyprus. Playing the part of the Monkey and the organ grinder and dancing to his own tune while the rest of us look on and laugh.....Thats you as well as him.....

Well Zan, there's your contradiction right up there . . . . :D

As for partition, you know I would never endorse that, so why say Tpap is going for a solution against what I would want? :?

NEW YEAR’S WISHES
Tassos Papadopoulos: “The fact that a prompt and correct solution on Cyprus is prevented by the unacceptable Turkish stance and behavior does not mean we are forced to ‘close’ the Cyprus problem with an unsuitable arrangement, just for the sake of time. We do not strive to gain time at the cost of missing the substance. Our struggle is to ensure the survival of the Republic and the continued physical and ethnic existence of Cypriot Hellenism on the land of its fathers. Time may be cementing the fait accomplish of the invasion and occupation, but a bad solution would cement and legitimise the prospects for disaster.”

What part of this speech do you not understand lovely.....Point it out and I will explain once again.....Does this not contradict what he said above
   And when did Tpap come to you for advise on what to do .........

Zan master of mistiness . . . . The contradiction is all yours my little peccadillo, not Papadopoulos' . . . . TPap doesn't contradict himself . . . . and you've got me mixed up with Bananiot methinks

. . . . VP has a sense of humour!

Your equation can be re-written as:

Cyprus = 2 X Solution

So a whole Cyprus is twice as good a solution . . . . .

But Tpapa does not want that.

So why was he so fervently against the Annan plan then, if partition was his purpose

Deniz dear, take your time answering 'cos I have to see to something for a while . . .

He is like yourself. He likes to have the last word, or it has to be his own idea, and the Annan Plan certainly was not.

Deniz, I thought I told you to take your time answering . . .

What kind of answer is that?

But I do agree, he is the kind of President that has his own ideas which is why he is so interesting, exciting, inspiring and above all presides with purposeful precision. 8)

Phoenix mou, do you think its worth my time worrying about Tpapa. Even you dont know whats in his mind.
