There is no doubt that 'The Genocide Files' written by Harry Scott Gibbons , a Scot of Irish decent, would show many Greek Cypriots why thier counterparts in the north welcomed The Turkish forces coming to save them from death and why many now feel comfortable with the status quo vis-a-vis the separation of the island and the nationhood they gained in 1974.
The ignorant would be horrified at the thought of it being compulsary reading in the schools in the south !
Admittedly it may be a little biased but not wholly so and is not adverse to mentioning the killing by a Turkish Cypriot of a British soldier who was leading a Greek Cypriot woman to safety.
It critises many including the socialist UK government and the USA which was worried about the Russian influence in Greek circles and therefore stood by watching the inhumane treatment of the Turkish minority.
Certainly Pirates and Phoenix would do well to read it.
Comments on the book include:-
' A ringside seat....a remarkable document...absolutely horrifying.... a study of (Greek) unscrupulous ruthlessness and lack of morality...' (Lars von Schantz, Vasabladet newspaper, Finland)
'Remorseless, an unputdownable account of pre-Bosnia. It is a classic of eyewitness-treatment writing. (Professor Norman Stone, Oxford University)
How about a new year resolution by the more extreme contributors to the Cyprus Problem forum to try to understand the reasons for the feelings of the other community?
The Northern Island problem looks like it has been all but resolved. Surely the same can be done in this island.
