Yesterday's and today's reports on Cyprus joining the Euro in some UK press ...

Independent wrote:Use of the euro applies only to the southern part of Cyprus controlled by the island's internationally recognised Greek Cypriot government. The north, a breakaway Turkish Cypriot state recognised only by Ankara, will continue to use Turkish lira.

Independent wrote:Five years after its appearance in European wallets, the euro has gained new ground, territorially and symbolically.

The pound – albeit the Cypriot pound – joined the euro yesterday, along with the Maltese lira, taking the number of countries using the single European currency to 15. At least four eastern European countries are expected to join in the near future.

I have seen those starter packs, they look good.
Went to two different places today, offered them the choice of CYP or Euros and both opted for the pounds!! :? :? :?

I bought diesel this morning…

The garage sign was still in cents, the pump calculated my purchase in Pounds (£20), I gave them a £20 note to cover it and got a receipt for €34.17

Me too ( 4 places over the last two days) and got CYP in change from one place without asking ~ two places asked if I minded Cyp change and after working out the change in euros for ages the 4th girl eventually gave up and said " sorry your change will have to be in CYP".

Oh one of the places I offered the money ( for a bottle of milk ) in Euro's only to be told they didn't recognise the coins and wouldn't accept them ~~ the money was the left over change from my trip to Italy and of course didn't match the piccy's she had of the new Cyprus Euro coins . :(

It's a good job the notes aren't country specifc otherwise we would be in deep shit when the summer tourists flood in

It's going to take time ~ a long time .

Beer was £1 a bottle yesterday, i hope that it's not 2euros today.

Oh Buggar, there is no euro symbol on my keyboard; i'm obsolete already :(

The € symbol is part of the standard Windows driver. Hold down the Alt Gr key (next to the spacebar) and press the number 4. Of course on a Greek keyboard it may be different.
