We've been in 3 different shops today - paid in Cy£'s and got Euros in change - at the correct rate of 1.71 to the Cy£

So, looks like some places have got it right and also taken note of the legislation :-)

I got rid of CYP last Friday, been paying with my card everywhere.
Shops will be accepting euros for 1 month, then only banks for the next 6 months and then only the central bank after that. Giving change in CYP is illegal now... All ATMs are giving euros now... a bit confused with my online bank but will get used to it :)

I went to 1 kiosk, they didnt have any change in euros and told me they will give me in pounds... i refused and left, then i was in the cafe last night... paid in euros again and they brought me change in CYP...

what the hell is going on? they had 6 months to get used to it... this behavior is pissing me off.

As many shopkeepers have told me, the problem is that they get CYP and give Euros. So at the end of the day they end up running out of Euros.
The other problem is that many of them didnt think that the banks were gonna be so busy today and failed to plan 2-3 days ahead.
Also theres the problem of people going to the shops to change their currency. For example buying some gum and paying with a 20CYP note, just to get some Euros.

Relax... what does it matter what change you get?

Personally i dont see what the big deal is.
People seem to be afraid that they are going to lose their money or something.

Fun day

Postby Tim Drayton » Wed Jan 02, 2008 5:06 pm

I had fun today. I went into town, taking the contents of the two euro coin starter packs I previously obtained, and paid for various purchases with fistfuls of small change. It must be the schoolboy in me!
