It does not matter which faith you follow or if you follow none at all, I have known many people who are OTT on religion and they have been the most awful people. Being a good person in my view is not doing harm, and if you can , offer help. A smile can make someones day and costs nothing. A kind word is worth a fortune.

I believe that I am a good person and I have brought up my daughter to be the same, a little kindness goes a long long way.

I treat everyone with the kindness and respect that I feel I deserve. You do not have to go to Church to be a decent person. But if it helps !!

Me too

It's really the only way although sadly there's plenty out there that will take advantage and screw you .

A kind thought or action can make someones day and as you so rightly say a smile costs nothing

Yes Bill, there really are some rotten people out there, but I think the nice people out number them.

An elderly man a couple of weeks ago opened the door for me and removed his hat, I was in the que at a butchers and insisted that I took his place, that simple act of kindness made my day, and do you know, what goes around comes around. :D

I'll never forget my first two encounters in trying to help someone when I first went to live in London which is a jungle compared to my previous home in a sleepy village in the hills.

The first was a woman in her middle age with a flat battery ~ I lifted the bonnet and jump started the car ~ her comment was " what do you want" I replied "a smile and a thank you would be nice" ~~ her reply "arsehole" and drove off.

Second was a guy in his mid 20's under the bonnet of his car after obviously just broken down ~ I stopped to offer assistance only to be told " why don't you f~ off and mind your own business".
A couple of hours later I was passing back down the same road and the guy and his car were still there ~ I couldn't help but pip the horn and smile at him ~ as you have said a little kindness and a smile go a long way  .

As you can imagine I was a bit reluctant to help anybody after that .

That is awful Bill, but it is sadly a sign of the times we live in. Those people were probably not used to kindness and so reacted in the only way they knew how ,badly. You offered your help and it was refused, you had the satisfaction of seeing the second guy still stuck and his punishment was seeing you drive back.

The woman was obviously no lady and badly brought up, this is her problem and not yours you are a clearly a Gentleman and you behaved in a Gentlemanly manner. Her upbringing was probably to blame for her attitude her Parents behaved in that way so she did likewise.

This does not excuse either of them,

Please do not let a couple of rude ignorant people change the way you are. :)

As far as I'm concerned the more pious a person is, the more cruel they are. History shows us this in so many examples.
Get rid of all religion and mankind will benefit !
