I, as a TC who is living in a town of the TRNC which holds the biggest concentration of extremist Muslims due to the fact that their leader is my neighbour, can tell you that not a single local takes them seriously nor opposes their existence, his followers consists of nothing but Westerners and also Turkish immigrants who make up only a tiny percent of his "Nakshibendi clan".
Sharia law will never get a chance to survive in Cyprus, nor in Turkey, so you might as well pack your shit now Qamersland
It is not quıte that simple, Shahmaran. The Turkish Cypriot Ministry of Religious Affairs has appointed Oğuz Metiner as imam of Limassol. Metiner apparently speaks Turkish, Greek, Arabic and English and so appears to have the linguistic resources to enable him to deal with virtually all Muslims living in Limassol. The fact remains that the Grand Mosque in Limassol must be Turkish Cypriot Evkaf property so I find it strange that the imam officially appointed by the Turkish Cypriot authorities appears to be shut out of this the main mosque in Limassol. I am curious to know who appoints the officials currently running this mosque, and whether the Turkish Cypriot religious authorities have any say in the matter.
As you point out, I am sure virtually no Turkish Cypriots living in Limassol can give a toss about this situation because they are not particularly religious, but it still does not seem right to me.
The thing is that people like Qamersland have little interest in what Turkish Cypriots, Muslims who have been living on this island for 450 years, think. Just look at his website about Islam in Cyprus which makes not the slightest reference to Turkish Cypriot Muslims.
