Greek "Settlers"

I have a feeling that this is as accurate as GC propaganda about Turkish "settlers", but it's an interesting read.

Thousands of Greek setters in the island
Historically, and particularly since 1961, Greece has systematically pursued a deliberate policy of colonizing and annexing Cyprus (a process they term “Enosis”), due to which 60,000 Turkish Cypriots were forced to leave their homes, memories and belongings in 1964 after the fierce attacks of Greek militia and a further 60,000 in 1974, as the outcome of the notorious coup d’etat against Archbishop Makarios III, staged by Greek generals in Greece.

This is being done in order to change the demographic structure of the island, to control and adulterate the 1960 Treaty of Establishment of the Republic of Cyprus. Such attempts at consolidating the transformation of Cyprus’s demographic character continued even after the events of 1974.

Under international law mass transfers by another country of its own civilian population into territories outside its boundaries to change demographic structure is illegal. Greece sent over its own population to the island of Cyprus in the early 1900s, and more consistently since 1961.

Weeks before the parliamentary elections held on May 21, 2006 on the Greek Cypriot side, Greek Cypriot Interior Minister Andreas Hristu announced the election areas and the number of voters.

According to the announcement the number of ballot centers was 1,300 and election areas six, defined as Paphos, Limasol, Larnaca, Nicosia, Famagusta and Kyrenia.

In this particular election, for the first time since 1963, Turkish Cypriots settled in southern Cyprus and registered on the electoral roll were allowed to use their votes.
The crucial part of the announcement was the number of the additional voters. It revealed a dramatic increase of 30,000 on top of the existing 470,000 voters, with the new total topping 500,000.

When the backgrounds of these 500,000 voters were analyzed, a stunning outcome surfaced, clearly revealing the number of Greek settlers clandestinely accumulated on the island since 1961.

The breakdown of “Greek settlers” in this electoral list of 500,000 is approximately as follows:
Pontus Greek Cypriots: 60,000 - 70,000
Citizens of the former Soviet Republic: 30,000
Christians who fled Lebanon: 15,000 - 20,000
Immigrants from Greece: 100,000
Asylum seeker Kurds: 2,500 - 3,000
Asylum seeker citizens from third countries: 9,500
Total of “Greek settlers in Cyprus”: approximately 230,000

According to the existing but unpublished Greek Cabinet Decision of 1964, any Greek citizen who has done his military service in Cyprus or served in the Greek National Army (Ethniki Fruro) automatically becomes a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus (Greek Cyprus).
For years one Greek regiment and two battalions of Greek Commandos were deployed on the island and thousands of Greek officers served in the Greek Cypriot National Guard. These privates and army officers, who change every two years, have, since 1964, automatically become citizens.

Most Greek Cypriots go to study in Greece, get married and return to Cyprus. Their partners also immediately become citizens.

The Pontus Greeks (Pontii) and citizens of the former Soviet republics were made citizens soon after they settled on the island from 1974 and 1982, respectively.
Opening their arms to the wealthy Christians who fled the war in Lebanon, the Greek Cypriots also made them citizens. Furthermore, according to EU norms, Kurds and citizens from third countries who seek asylum automatically become citizens.

Why are only Turkish Cypriots consistently blamed for bringing in 40,000 settlers from Turkey, while the Greek Cypriots are not, although they have given citizenship to 230,000 non-Greek Cypriots and dramatically changed the demographic structure of the island?

Yeah, we are so god dam proud and candor, we never take any measures, and look where it got us, all this propaganda that is building up is eventually going to collapse on us, on the other hand the Greeks are very sly and cunning, direct attacks have got them no where so they change tactics, but never the less, they are still trying and we are doing nothing :?

what a load of crap!

One should be idiot to believe even a single word from what this guy is witting. Not only what he is saying has absolutely nothing to do with the truth, but he is such an idiot he even wrote that the asylum seekers were voting in elections

You guys should realize where your propaganda crosses the line of outrageous and enters the absolutely comical. Even Zan could use his imagination to write more believable lies than that!

The many 10s of thousands of Turkish Settlers in the occupied areas is an undeniable fact. 40.000 is just the amount of the Turkish army. You have always produced propaganda lies in an effort to "balance" the truth, but this person should be fired for having no brain and making the lies so obvious.

As the biggest propaganda merchant on this forum, you should be an idiot to think that your views on "propaganda" should hold any value in the first place

Odd then to believe GC propaganda about the 10s of thousands of Turks living in the North. A more rational body than the GC government, International Peace Institute, Oslo did a detailed study in 2005. You can find their results here:
http://www.prio.no/files/manual-import/ ... educed.pdf
Their figures seem reasonable, matched by simple observation.

Has a similar, independent study, been done on the GC portion of Cyprus?

Well said Piratis!
...they do realy amaze me, though, of how they use their imagination to hide their own shit.

After the Turkish invasion of northern Cyprus in 1974 and especially the last 10-15 years, there has been an unprecedented effort by Turkey to change the demographic character of the occupied northern Cyprus. The results of a Turkish Cypriot census at the end of April 2006 state that out of a total population of 264,172, only 100,000 were Turkish Cypriots. Turkish settlers from Anatolia moved to the island, whose number reached around 146,122 (2007 figures)[1]. Almost 1/3 of the Turkish settlers in northern Cyprus have been given the "Turkish Cypriot" citizenship by the Turkish Cypriot authorities[2]; in other words they were naturalized. Settlement in Northern Cyprus , especially if this is accompanied by naturalization, is a violation to the Geneva Conventions Protocol of 1977 since the Turkish occupation has been declared illegal by the UN. As a result of illegal settlement and naturalization of mainland Turks, the Turkish Cypriots who remain in Northern Cyprus are today outnumbered by the Turkish settlers and security forces[3].

Ankara is reportedly threatening the breakaway regime on the issue of granting the “citizenship” to Turkish settlers
Turkish Cypriot daily Afrika newspaper (17.12.07) reports that a “citizenship bargaining” is taking place between the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the “administration of the TRNC”. The paper continues its reference to the issue from yesterday when it had published information regarding “50 thousand new citizenships”.
Afrika reveals new information today, according to which Ankara told the administration of the breakaway regime the following: “Either you make citizens immediately those who complete the ten years or we will cut the money”.

The paper writes: “It has been made known that during the past few days, serious debates are taking place between TRNC officials and the government in Ankara. Ankara, which is exerting pressure so that those who have completed now the ten years to be made citizens, has threatened that in case this is not done it will cut its financial aid. While explaining that they will not be able to make citizens overnight a crowd of people as large as 50 thousand persons, the TRNC officials have experienced great difficulties. It was revealed that the difficulties with the VAT returns and the 13th salary are deriving from these debates. It is noted that in the end Ankara agreed to this ‘for the time being’ and it began to spend money”.

Halil in case you haven't noticed the writer has already tried to make propaganda but he failed miserably. His problem is all his blah-blah are just lies. Modern propaganda is based on exageration of TRUE FACTS not on fabrication of lies. When ones data are all lies he is not even a propagandist, he is just a LIER.

Even the EU knows we had about 2500 asylum seekers over the years. The question is how many of those were ever accepted as per EU laws, how many of those have not fled to other EU countries after they were finally accepted, and how many of those eventually stayed in Cyprus and got citizenship. Do you know how many of those ever got Cypriot citizenship halil?????

Furthermore is it TRUE or is it not that Turkey just recently threatened Talat to give 5000 citizenships to settlers?
