I know where Bill is coming from, Christmas with relatives can be a nightmare.

This Christmas was Great !! Just My husband my daughter and I and the pets of course. I did a Traditional Christmas and we loved every minuite.

I spent every year for a long time in Cyprus entertaining people who I did not like and I knew they did not like me ( they had their little ways).
Then I put my foot down and said NO!!! We are going away this year and we did, that broke the chain.

The "friends" got the hump and went thier own way, we had hardly ever been invited back to thier place so no loss.

It is rotten when a day you are looking forward to for weeks is spoiled by someone else.

I had 3 days of entertaining. Christmas Eve is Mr Niki's birthday - lots of friends over, food, wine etc. Christmas Day with friends and family (souvla was cooked) and today friends for Christmas dinner. I am now officially fed up with cooking and entertaining so slobbing out in front of the TV with a large box of chocolates tomorrow. :D

I said to hubby and girls next year we're going out but the emotional blackmail coming back is not pretty - sigh, may have to do again next year!

I did enjoy it though!

But I spent so long with visitors (not of choosing but for "kindness") and food preparations (and only a few minutes on the forum  ) that I barely saw my son . . . who also was left playing his new games on the Wii with his dad.

I think Christmas is all wrong. I hate it, even when everything supposedly goes according to plan. It's dispiriting and a deranged way of spending even a day.

See it as a test Phoenix. If you can survive a big family christmas with all its tensions, jealousies, and proper timing of your cooking, then you will survive anything. With your experiences in life and what with your own prowess is cooking and having  Turkey for lunch, you will do just .
fine. I suppose now you have to prepare for Hogmannay   You do have a hard life.

Mine was exactly like Hazza's but with a big headach, still have a big headache.. Christmas eve was the best when I spent it with my friends, got drunk and was my happy self. When your with family you got to constantly have your eyes and ears open and watch what you say..

Christmas Eve I smashed it!

I was too tired on Christmas, as I've cleaned and cooked until 4 in the morning on Christmas day. Got some friends over in the afternoon, everything went perfect from this point of view, but... Christmas ain't Christmas when you're away :(
So, even if it was acceptable, my answer is ... no.
