Ghosts in Cyprus?

Postby cymart » Wed Dec 26, 2007 12:04 am

Just to get away from politics for a while,I am very interested in things like paranormal phenomena which includes a wide range of topics such as ghosts and hauntings etc.Without going into it too much now,one of the reasons for such disturbances is considered to be tragic or violent circumstances in a particular place during the past which causes an incident to be 're-played' at certain times such as the annual anniversary of the original event and these things are sometimes witnessed by various people and then reported.Another explanation may be that the persons who died in a particular place are still unable to accept that they have left the earthly life and move on to higher levels of existence and cause audial and visual phenomena to occur in an attempt to draw attention themselves.
Cyprus theoritically should have many such places yet very few people here ever seem to refer to such things.....
Some years ago I spoke to a Turkish Cypriot from London when I was in the north and he did compulsory military service when he came back to live here and marry a local girl. Some of his time was spent in the closed area of Varosha and he told me he was sure it was haunted as both himself and other people had scary experiences there at night which could not be explained by the noise of the wind banging shutters and doors in abandoned buildings or by cats and other wild animals which roam around etc.Apparently they heard voices and footsteps in empty streets which they couldn't make out clearly,as well as mysterious lights which vanished when someone tried to get close to them!Although such a place is obviously provocative to peoples imagination, especially as most of it has no lights or electricity supply etc. apart from in a few buildings which are in use,he said the whole place has a very negative and depressing atmosphere, even on bright sunny days and many other military staff felt uncomfortable there without being able to explain exactly what caused them to feel that way....He also said he had been in other isolated and abandoned places, both in northern Cyprus and other countries as well, but did not get the same feeling that he had in Varosha which he felt was 'jinxed'.
Does anyone else have any comments about this or other places in Cyprus???

Places can feel charged due to particular atmospheric conditions such as humidity due to altitude and nearness to water etc.

There is no evidence to suggest anything of the paranormal even when people "sense" things.

I can't believe anyone who is computer literate enough to use a forum to communicate with people across the globe, could possibly entertain the idea of "ghosts".

They probably heard the looters removing doors and windows at night time and when they saw someone they would turn there flashlights off. :)

So you don't believe in anything which is 'metaphysical??'

Postby cymart » Wed Dec 26, 2007 12:35 pm

What about re-incarnation,psychic healing,past lives,near death experiences,prediction,mediumship.sixth sense etc????

By the way,Varosha was looted decades ago in an organised way by the Turkish Army but the experiences I described happened quite recently.....

In the U.K. and many other countries, these subjects are taken seriously and researched by well-known academics and scientists who now accept there are no rational explanations for them..

Martin
Scaring young conscripts with ghost stories was/is the most effective way of stopping them from wandering into the ghost town of Varosha..

Cymart, if you are so interested in such supernatural phenomena then i suggest you take a trip to Lefke and pay a visit to Moulana Sheikh Nazim, who is believed to be one of the only living angels (seriously) in the world and has thousands and thousands of visitors from all around the world ALL the time (pretty shocking actually) who come and stay in his "Dergah", in my, and the rest of the locals eyes he is nothing but a very convincing little old man but everyone else seem to think otherwise, the guy is the leader of his own "cult" who claim to be a form of Sufism and he happens to be the "highest ranking Sufi Master", but they believe the guy has supernatural powers of healing, changing lives and making a LOT of money by the looks of it

I know because he is my neighbour
