Couldn't agree with you more though, I think Karpaz is the most incredible place. I don't know if it's the Jews but there is definately a lot of construction going on...I've seen some big hotels/villa complexes being built there and although it's a shame, it does look quite nice actually, plus the villagers really don't seem to have a problem with the place being modernised. I think they should protect DipKarpaz since its got a lot of sentimental value to most people but I have a feeling they won't spare it... :(

I didn't know anything about the turtles. I thought they were protected....????

Well they are meant to be, but then we have all those illegal constructions along the beach with bungalows and restaurants that people just seem to have built, but which village are you talking about? The one that i am thinking is only made up of Pontus Turks, i didnt know that TCs or anyone else lived there, well other then the random small hotels along the road and that crazy old nun that lives in the Church at the tip of the island, she told me off last time i went there

Lefke etc.

I quite agree,it's a very nice place! How far can you go towards the dam before you come to the military zone at the green line nowadays?I think there are some other nice villages there which are not inhabited such as Omerli/Galini(no water supply) and Sirinkoy/Varisha(half in the buffer zone).
Also Taskoy/Petra and Camlikoy/Kalokhorio.
For a superb scenic jewel visit Yesilirmak/Limnitis which has nice seaside tavernas and very friendly people who also speak Greek!Good strawberries too in season.....(I wish they would open the road to Kato Pyrgos for the peole there though!)

You can go passed the dam and the mines, there is a big cemetery there and after that i guess its the border, i never bothered to climb that far to be honest but i do go to Limnitis quite often, and yes one of those strawberries fields belongs to a friend of mine, we can spend hours in it
