There are no embargoes on the people of the 'TRNC', but rather on the illegal pseudostate. And the so-called isolation of the Turkish Cypriots does not exist: they have the right to move elsewhere - to Turkey or to the Republic of Cyprus, of which 90,920 have a birth certificate, 79,497 have an identity card, and 49,156 have a passport. Many thousands also work in the south yet continue to live cheaply in the north. Legally they are all part of the Republic of Cyprus and have the right to travel and work throughout the other member states. The isolation is a propagandist myth created by the anti-re-unification politicians of the north in order to seek recognised independence from the Republic (more like the recognition of being annexed as a province by Turkey) and to be against re-unification is ultimately, in my view, to be anti-Cypriot.
Piratis wrote:Can you show me even one document from the EU or UN that claim that they are committed to removing any isolation from some "trnc"? On the contrary both EU and UN are committed not to recognize any "trnc", and if you want to end your self-isolation this has to be done with legal means approved by the one and only state that exists in Cyprus, the Republic of Cyprus.
RESOLUTION 541 (1983)
Adopted by the Security Council
on 18 November 1983
The Security Council,
Having heard the statement of the Foreign Minister of the Government of the Republic of Cyprus,
Concerned at the declaration by the Turkish Cypriot authorities issued on 15 November 1983 which purports to create an independent state in northern Cyprus,
Considering that this declaration is incompatible with the 1960 Treaty concerning the establishment of the Republic of Cyprus and the 1960 Treaty of Guarantee,
Considering therefore that the attempt to create a "Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus", is invalid, and will contribute to a worsening of the situation in Cyprus,
Reaffirming its resolutions 365(1974) and 367(1975),
Aware of the need for a solution of the Cyprus problem, based on the mission of good offices undertaken by the Secretary-General,
Affirming its continuing support for the United Nations Peace-Keeping Force in Cyprus,
Taking note of the Secretary-General's statement of 17 November 1983,
1. Deplores the declaration of the Turkish Cypriot authorities of the purported secession of part of the Republic of Cyprus;
2. Considers the declaration referred to above as legally invalid and calls for its withdrawal;
3. Calls for the urgent and effective implementation of its resolutions 365(1974) and 367(1975);
4. Requests the Secretary-General to pursue his mission of good offices in order to achieve the earliest possible progress towards a just and lasting settlement in Cyprus;
5. Calls upon the parties to cooperate fully with the Secretary-General in his mission of good offices;
6. Calls upon all States to respect the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and non-alignment of the Republic of Cyprus;
7. Calls upon all States not to recognise any Cypriot state other than the Republic of Cyprus;
8. Calls upon all States and the two communities in Cyprus to refrain from any action which might exacerbate the situation;
9. Requests the Secretary-General to keep the Security Council fully informed.
Adopted at the 2500th meeting by 13 votes to 1 against (Pakistan) with 1 abstention (Jordan).

The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has called on the UN Security Council to lift the international isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people.
Mr Ban’s call came in his latest report, in which he called on the Council to extend the mandate of the UN Peace Keeping Force in Cyprus for another 6 months.
The Turkish Cypriot Side has welcomed the report as `positive`.
The UN Secretary General Ban presented his report on Cyprus to the UN Security Council recommending the extension of the UNFICYP’s mandate for another six months, until the 30th of June 2008.
In the report, Mr Ban calls on the Council to end the isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people, calling it as a move which will contribute to the reunification of the island.
Expressing the view that 2008 could bring about a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem, Mr Ban called on the two sides in Cyprus to refrain from blame game and to show flexibility and political courage.
In the report, he also called for the implementation of the 8-July Agreement and the Confidence Building Measures proposed by the two sides.
Meanwhile, the Presidential Spokesperson Hasan Ercakica has welcomed the report as a positive document.
Speaking during his weekly press briefing, the spokesperson said that a brief evaluation of the report showed that it includes objective and realistic evaluations on the Cyprus issue.
He said the Turkish Cypriot Side shares the view expressed by the UN Chief that the 2008 will be a crucial year for the Cyprus problem.
`Mr Ban’s view fully coincides with the proposals tabled by President Mehmet Ali Talat during last September’s leaders’ meeting` he said, reminding that the proposals envisage the solution of the Cyprus problem by the end of 2008.
Pointing out that the report underlines the need for concrete steps towards bringing about a solution to the Cyprus problem, he said `the address of this call is the Greek Cypriot Side, which has been playing for time to delay the solution of the Cyprus problem`.
He added that the Turkish Cypriot Side has been working hard for the resumption of fully-fledged negotiations.
Welcoming the UN Chief’s call for the lifting of the isolation on the Turkish Cypriot people as a move encouraging the solution of the Cyprus problem, he said ‘it is very meaningful that Mr Ban finds it disappointing that the debate over the lifting of the isolation had been turned to a debate over recognition`.
Pointing out that the Turkish Cypriot Side and the UN Chief have a similar approach towards the lifting of the isolation, he said that Mr Ban stressed the need for all international actors to take the view that the lifting of the isolation will contribute to the efforts aimed at reuniting the island into consideration without further delay.
