I think Sophia is intelligent enough to know that it was a rhetorical question I put to her. She nows she can find all the answers in the rest of the forum. Give her some credit please. I think the advise you gave her on the Charlie thing was good though.

Thanks Zan.. again I am sorry for the stupid comment I made earlier.. My father mentioned something similar to what you have mentioned but thought he was just being kind to both sides.. Our family was not involved as they came to uk in the 50's but my heart does go out to your father who sounds like a very proud man..

You are very welcome Sophia and your father sounds like a great and generous man to have made those comments to you. I like him already. Thanks for your comments on my father as well. He is more like a lost soul than proud. I am only just beginning to understand what it must have been like in those days of being proud....He does not tire of telling me that he was honoured to have been named the best organised and smartest man in his regiment. The pictures show that he might have been right.

The Cypriot kids are seeing into the future and they do not like it one bit and neither do we, meaning us British cypriot kids, we worry just like them coz we see exactly what they see, another governmental F**k up.

This is a message for all you proud greek cypriots, you are not alone, as much as you never thought much of us British Cypriots, we are here too and we are sticking by you even if we are not living in Cyprus we still care.

There are more of us then you think we cypriots are every where and no one can get rid of us or over lap us...

Sofia,

I understand completly what you are saying and I agree.

I have never been referred to as a charlie yet, but it won't cut any ice with me. I am much older than you, maybe thicker skin, but you shouldn't let that bother you.

It can be hard in cyprus try to gel with the locals, but you have to try hard than them to get accepted. The more you let them see you are intimidated the worst it gets.

When i came to Cyprus, not that long ago, i found myself comparing the place to the UK and alot of things really sucked me off, but hey, we are in cyprus now, you just have to learn to accept things and try harder to intergrate. I find life much easier now and I am getting along just fine. Persiverence is what you need.

As for Hazza long winded reason why he thinks we are called charlies, well i don't agree to be honest, I think it may have just come from some prat trying to be clever came up with the word and now its stuck.

The is a certain amount of jealousy from the locals to the english cypriots, they think that when the come to cyprus they are all loaded and being a cultural thing, they can't bear to think someone is doing good for them selves.

Don't even try to answer Zan question, or this thread will turn into a cyprob thread, but what i would say to him, since sofia asked you first , you answer then we will give you your answer.

Have a good christmas girl.

i was called a charlie once! i got off my chair and smashed it over the waitor that called me charlie! his boss run out i told him what had happened and asked him if he wanted to call me a charlie, he declined i left without paying the bill, and the waitor sat there like an idiot nursing his bleeding head wound! i found that this is the best way of addressing such problems in cyprus! it seems to be the only language they understand sadly!

I never use to speak either and I love to talk me.

xx

Hey, whats wrong with brixton? I used to live there, spent my teenage years there.

But that was some time ago i guess. I bet its different now though.

Anyway please don't compare cyprus with brixton, no fear here. In brixton look at the next guy by accident , you are likely to get shot!

So, where are you from, and what part of cyp were your parents from.

Although, being only 19, unless your parents had you very late, I don't see how they could have come over in the 50's unless its your grand parents you were on about.

Sorry not being cheeky here,

Zan,

if you read sophias other thread "you smell" you will see she is not the intelligent type you think she is.

To be honest, she is not even worthy of any replies, only insults that she is already dishing out.

For a 19 year old young lady (at least thats what she claims) her mouth is a sewer and she obviously has no respect for any one.

Anyway, you read her other thread and decide.

Seems the advice i tried to give her earlier was truely wasted.
