Christmas is close to the feast day of Saint Nicholas (December 6), saint protector of sailors and fishermen. It is also the custom to light up ships in harbor on festival days, especially Saint Nicholas day and Christmas day. It is a custom from days when the arrival of the ship meant good times for the family and the community in general, since it brought back the sailors safe and with pockets full of money.
