Turkish Cypriots have become a minority in their own country

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby T_C » Sun Dec 30, 2007 5:56 pm

For me the 18-82% split is more favorable than the 30-70% anyways...We don't even need that much land, plus that way we might end up getting TRNC to the way it used to be, before the Kurdish exodus when we'd do things like sleep with all the doors and windows wide open during the summer times...fair enough we all have air con now  but I still really miss those days, and it wasn't even that long ago that we could do things like that without having to worry about ANYTHING.

TRNC was a safe and QUIET TC haven before, but now with soo many people from Turkey it's just not the same. With less land we'd have to keep everything under tighter control so I'm all for it to be honest...

And unification is NOT the answer for now, we need a clean break where we live side by side in peace without all the quarreling to begin with. If we were to have a unitary state the GCs would be too hyped up and they'd feel like they'd won the "war"...so I'm sure we'd get dickheads taunting us with bullshit like "Cyprus is Greek" and what have you. Unification could end up being worse than living with the Kurds!! What good is unification when you might end up feeling like you're not welcome in your own country?!?!? What good would come out of a unitary state (other than materialistic stuff) for TCs? It would be worse since we wouldn't be sharing with 200.000 people...we'd be sharing with a MILLION EUROPEAN people, half of whom probably hate our ethnicity even if not us "directly"!!!!!

Imagine sending your child to a unified school in Cyprus so they can be taught the GC version of Cyprus history and learn about the angel Makarios, and how the TCs started a war to partition the half of Cyprus because they were "greedy" and how the kind and genorous GCs forgave them and let them live....

And if that doesn't convince you then play the video and read the above over again with sound effects!!

Unification is a nice idea but it's too big a risk to take imo, not till everythings settled and we feel theres no need to doubt. It's the same for the GCs, what we would risk to lose in the event of unification (in their case partition) is PRICELESS...would the GCs trust us and agree even if everyone got to return to their homes under a Turkish Cypriot government? No! It's the same with us...they have a reason not to trust a Turkish government and we have a reason not to trust a Greek one. It works both ways...the GCs mistrust is understandable but the TCs mistrust of GCs is conveniently pushed aside and labelled an "excuse" which is just pure ignorance! Anyways lets stop trying to fool eachother and agree to SOMETHING so we can all move on to better days..

If only there were female presidential candidates!!!

You speak of "humanity" . Where was this Greek humanity between 1963-1974 towards the TCs?

Yes there was. Unfortunatly, you are one of these morons that think the actions of a few represent the whole community. Was there Turkish Cypriot humanity to Greek Cypriots between 1963-1974...or even before!?

T_C, I understand your apprehension, and it is not unreasonable. Would you live with a Republic of Cyprus which has a reformed Constitution, where anyone can become President and where each citizen of Cyprus has the right to three votes for its legislature, so that an Independant representative, perhaps with regional support, is voted for to a Lower House, having a Speaker, passing legislation by consensus, and a leader, the President, is found, in an Upper House having an equal number of seats for Grecophones and Turcophones, where Parties campaign to win a majority of those seats, offering candidates in every riding on two slates, to fill its two seats, every electorate with two votes, choosing the representative, one from each slate, which best serves their needs.

Would you live in a Cyprus that was truly Bicommunal, such that two National Assemblies, each having mutually exclusive Jurisdiction over a territory, also exist to provide to each a majority as a People, where every citizen is equal because each has one vote, where they can sustain themselves first as one ethnicity or another, and with respect and recognition each providing for the needs and it's services in other languages as well, to their respective minorities.

Would it be acceptable to you if land was redistributed so that it is Bizonal, so that enclaves spot the whole island, rather than divided in two, allowing for a greater number of choices, the right of return for all the displaced, without ethnic distinction, for some even as communities, homes instead of houses for Settlers, promoting better relations (free association and mobility), and the possibility that each community will prosper, adding to the diversity of each culture.

I think, viewpoint, that you are happy with things they way they are. You want to be Turkish. Cyprus as an island is of no importance to you. Calling yourself Cypriot is a trivial matter which has much less importance. The animosity which is fomented suits you fine, so that you can live in a mono clonal bubble with someone to blame, because freedom comes second to the exclusive nature of your desired lifestyle, you ignore anything that risks a sacrifice for something far better, partition has always been, it seems, your dream come true.

respulse you tend to see things how you want not the reality that stares you directly in the face.

Ask yourself hard questions, was the period from 1963 to 1974 better than the period from 1974 to 2007??? please be honest and dont try to respond with some sort of utopian mentality.

We have established a peaceful exsistence for 33 years, you have a recognized GC state without interefering TCs and we have our area protected by Tukrey, no longer at the mercy of GCs.

Why would you want to change the above for union which neither side really wants or will support even if it is forced upon us by the bigger powers, why put people in danger all over again???

The status quo...

Postby cymart » Sun Dec 30, 2007 10:05 pm

Many people support it because they fear that any change to it may be worse and this attitude is cultivated by those in the establishment who consider it does suit their needs... a viscious circle which it is very difficult to break....

viewpoint, in all sincerity, i am attached to the trees. i love this place because of its Patrimony, and my place in it, and out of respect i defend it, but with a sense of sacrifice and my duty, as a person toward the Human Race, i will do what is right, and in that, to compromise is a treason.

no viewpoint, you are right, the best three years were the first three years because there was an opportunity to better ourselves. unless we choose unity, no one who lives on this island is safe, and any solution which keeps us apart and mutually exclusive serves the bigger powers because it will serve their own denial, in there own State.

we must serve ourselves, and we must accept that before being 'Greeks' or 'Turks' we are Human beings, good or bad.

...and furthermore, in my scenario, you can for yourself, this one time only, create a country where as an Individual you can say you are from Cyprus, as a Person you can say you are Greek Cypriot, or Turkish Cypriot, and as a Citizen you can say you live anywhere you please, choosing to be living in a community where your one vote is equal to any other, as part of a majority (ethnicly speaking), or by your own choosing a part of its minority.

In my Cyprus we maximise our potential by looking forward, futuristicly

The same British scum that make up approx 60% of the tourists visiting this island?
The same British scum that come here to live and spend their pensions that they earned in the UK? And to buy property from Cypriots (when they can find one that will not rip them off) using capital that has been earned in the UK?

They live here, they buy property here, they assist in sustaining the economy on this island but hey!! Get rid of all of them and see what happens to the economy!!

He didn't say get rid of them all  . . . just the scum . . . you are the one who thinks all the British are scum, because that is how you interpreted the remark

I interpreted it how it was meant to be interpreted. It would be just as offensive if I had said get rid of the Cypriot scum from the UK. Which I wouldn't of course because the majority of Cypriots work and live happily in the UK contributing to society and the economy as a whole. As do the majority of British people on this island.

Nothing wrong in getting rid of scum from any country...the magic word here is scum...unless ofcource you don't mind living amongst scum...

If the magic word was scum then why mention British? Why not say get rid of all the scum from the country. No, I read it correctly the first time. The emphasis was on British scum as opposed to all scum (not that I would use that word to describe anyone)

Well sweetie pie, I never mentioned british scum...I said all scum from any country...so please do not imply that I said British scum by quoting what said...I just gave my 2 cents...

Boomerang, Boomerang, :) I was not inferring that you had said British Scum, that was Humanist. I think I misinterpreted your posting as I read it that you were supporting his words and if I did I am sorry
