The best he will get out of me is a scan of the coins in his own forum...and thats a big maybe :lol:

I think from memory they even came with different designs on them...I need to dig them out and have another look...

When we left Cyprus for OZ, I brought with me my piggy bank and it was full of these coins as in the early '60, 2 bakires you could get a half tashinopita...

This one is a later one...not from the '60s...actually 1977...found on the net...if you knew where to look...



PS...I had to throw the if you know where to look hoping to buy us some time for peace and quite :lol:

Boomerang,that is a 5 Mils.I have ones dated 1963 & 1971.

no mils is a different coin and a different colour and different material...

a bakira represents 5 mils...hence 1 bakira...but why am I telkling you this?...you are the expert :lol:

Boomerang,in 1955-57,there were 3,5,25,50,& 100 Mils.In 1963-82,there were 1 Mil,5,25,50,100,& 500 Mils in circulation.

One English Sovereign..................180 piastres
French twenty-franc piece.............142 piastres
Turkish Lira..................................162 piastres
Half Crown....................................22.5 piastres
One shilling..................................9 piastres
One penny....................................30 paras

Turkish Medjili (mecidiye)...............3shilling 4penny
One piastre....................................1.5penny

40paras...................................1 piastre

Iceman,the coins of the Pounds,Shillings,& Piastres system were as follows; 1/4,1/2,& 1 Piastre,3,4-1/2,9,18,& 45 Piastres.The 9 & 18 Piastres became 1/- & 2/- in 1947 & 1949.

The 45 Piastres was Cyprus' first commemorative coin,as it was only issued in 1928 to commemorate 50 years of British rule.
