cyprus needs allies and it also needs friends....I dont have a problem with no ethnic creed ....

Could you provide some details of these troubles between greek cyps and turkish cyps in London in the period you mentioned.

I have lived in london most of my life and i must admit i never heard any of this! maybe i go around with my eyes shut or something! yes i have encountered the odd isolated idiot but that goes for blacks, asians,english , eastern european, and everyone including us!

Think about it. Some children were born to Anatolian settlers in Cyprus in 1974. They will be 33 now. Some of these must have have married and had thier own children by now. I have never personally met such people, but they must exist. As time goes by there will be more and more third-generation settlers. This is yet another complication that is creeping in as time goes by.
Another thought. The number of EU nationals settling in Cyprus is increasing. It is no longer only retired people who are doing so. Since Cyprus acceded to the EU a large number of British people of working age, myself included, have decided to move here and work or start businesses. We are perfectly entitled to do this, just as much as Cypriots can settle anywhere in the EU. Extrapolating from current trends, I sometimes wonder if the day will come when there are more British people on the island than Turkish Cypriots. If that day does come don't be surprised if you start hearing Brits questioning whether the GCs and the TCs should be the only partners to the Cyprus problem. People of working age are more dynamic and less inclined to take a back seat than retired people, and some of the Brits now moving here have young families, a factor that will make them more concerned about the long term future of this country. I think such people will increasingly demand to have a voice in what goes on here.
Please do not misunderstand me. I strongly feel that it is the business of GCs and TCs to find a settlement. I think most foreigners living here would agree with this position - now, but maybe not for ever. The clock is ticking away. There are so many different demographic changes going on that Cypriots need to pull their fingers out and find a solution that is in their interests while they are still in a position to do so.

I agree with you,Tim...Anybody who was born in Cyprus and knows no other homeland cannot be asked to leave,on humanitarian grounds. We who know what it is like to be forced out of your country,should stand united on this. Two wrongs will not make one right. The good news is we can accommodate these people at this stage without disadvantaging the refugees,or the Cypriots from the diaspora, like myself, who might want to return.

And I see a ray of hope in your second point. If the British become the second largest community in Cyprus,this might serve as a circuit breaker.
Perhaps we could all feel more comfortable in a multicultural society made of more ethnicities than the original fueding two...It might become
easier to renegotiate the 1960 agreement...Keep thinking and talking, Tim...You are making lots of sense.

We were all born into this world the same way,albeit under varying circumstances and will all leave it either via a chimney or under the ground somewhere.......at the end of the day we own nothing on a permanent basis,just like our children do not belong to us and are on loan until they grow up.....If only everyone could understand this simple eternal truth,the Cyprus Problem and so many other problems would not exist because in reality we are all the same,but just share different locations and portions of the same pie which is this planet while we are here......And quite frankly,most of us have made a bloody big mess of everything in this world so far and have little to be proud of!

And this is one of the matters not discussed in the various solution plans. Maybe it is because it affects me personally but it is annoying to see all kinds of provisions made in plans and nothing is said for us expat Cypriots.

Considering how much talent is there for the asking the ommission is perplexing and at times it becomes a little insulting.

Tim, the lawful movement of people within the context of the EU is not comparable to the policy of colonization and demographic alteration pursued by Turkey in northern Cyprus. The objections to the legalization of colonists is a pan Cypriot attitude judging by what I read in the (translated) commentaries and reports in the TC press. Accomodating colonists by necessity involves a something for nothing deal and therefore it is unfair to the all locals. It is a problem which neither GCs nor TCs have created.
