PARKING FINES

Postby Phileas » Sat Dec 15, 2007 6:39 pm

Where and when will this government implement proper fines and car towing for bad parking ? Go to LOndon, Hong Kong, New York or Paris, and see how drivers care about parking...simply because in 5mn or less, your car is towed away by police forces and you pay 200 € or more to get it back...after having to go to a remote parking area a few hours later

Our municipalities do not care, the government do not care either, they loose big money ( from fines ) and we give such headache to tourists or elder people...

Again, are we happy with that ?

I’m happy with it…

One of the great things about here compared to the UK is that you can leave your car for a few minutes without some Nazi parking attendant slapping a ticket on it…

I'm very happy with it.

I remember a few years back in the West End of London. Parked on a single yellow line, back doors open, trolly ful of computers on the pavement and me loading the van up. At the front of the van was the traffic warden who slapped a parking ticket on the windscreen (didn't see him there).

I am happy with it too, don't get me wrong sometimes it can work to your disadvantage. Last week for example I was driving on the left hand lane and some guy was parked up on double yellow lines on a busy road. I naturally anticipated, but what I did not anticipate was him opening his door full-swing. He took my wind-mirror out. I now have a broken wind mirror. As soon as I eventually got chance to turn back the guy burned off. But I don't blame the driver, I blame the government for giving the (periptero) kiost licence to open on a very busy road without sufficient parking. That's the main problem, shops and offices not having proper parking or any parking.

I guess we have to find a balance. Last year I saw an old lady's car break down in central London and she just about managed to pull to the side of the road and put her hazard lights on. In a matter of minutes a warden had shown up and the woman told him the AA were on the way. Warden didn't care and slapped her with a parking fine...
