1000 TCs protest at Pergamos checkpoing

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

1000 TCs protest at Pergamos checkpoing

Postby Nikitas » Sat Dec 15, 2007 12:21 pm

About 1000 Turkish Cypriot workers crossing over to the free areas were stopped for checks at the Pergamos checkpoint yesterday 14 December.

The checks were out of the ordinary, they started at 6 am, and as time dragged on and more workers arrived a crowd of around 1000 workers massed at the check point waiting impatiently. Tempers frayed and soon there were scuffles with the TRNC police.

Angry workers blocked the check point with their cars and staged an impromptu protest. It took an on the spot visit by the TRNC interior minister to cool tempers when he apologised for the delay and promised it would not happen again.

Seems that TCs are fed up with the bullshit and are showing it.

What is even more interesting is that according to the Politis newspaper several Tv stations in the north carried the news, but RIK did not. I will try to catch their news today to see if they cover the news today.

Nikitas we are going to see a new wave of immigration to the south if I have it correct. People have now tasted freedom and are not willing to put up with imprisonment no longer. The good issue that came up the other day will only create a feeling of unrest in the occupied areas.

This is the moment the RoC needs to be supportive to encourage TC's who were originally from the south to move back. This will defeat Turkeys' arguments about protection. Perhaps if enoguh TC' move to their homes of origin the international community will have no option but to call Turkeys bluff and ask for their withdrawl from Cyprus. Perhaps then we can return to the 1960's constitution and work hard to rebuild our lives and hence our country.,

It's great to see acknowledgement of the BIG MISTAKE (MEGALO LATHOS  ) that the TCs have made in pretending they needed Turkey.

BUT I am afraid that Turkey will only fill the void with yet more Turks and the South will have become overridden. Its economic advantage can very quickly be exhausted by the TCs and then they will start ALL OVER again with their demands for the easy life.

As it is, it's probably the ones that are most easily disgruntled that we would end up with in the south. The types that cry for help instead of correcting the problems .... BECAUSE the BIG PROBLEM that they have to CORRECT instead of run away from, is the HUGE presence of Turkish troops.

TCs : stay in the north, help get rid of the Turkish troops then we would have no barriers and you would have shown you repent, and are prepared to assist the RoC instead of betray it. Then we can start again with a clean slate.

Prodigal sons . . . always welcome back! :D

Humanist I hope you are right, and then the major challenge will be implementing the 1960 stystem fully. After what we have gone through these last 40 some years that should be a pleasant challenge.

But as Phoenix says, Turkey will most likely try and fill the void with more settlers. Unless the EU call their bluff and calls on them to undo the colonisation.

I do not believe there will be mass immigration to the South from the North!! As for freedom - the North is not a prison. Also why should the TC's REPENT??? Repent what? Not allowing themselves to be slaughtered and/or herded into enclaves??? Can't you see that is that sort of attitude that will guarantee seperation FOR EVER???

Tess not seeing how much wrong they have done to cause the division of such a small Island, is what is keeping everyone apart.

There are so many places in the world where worse things have happened and they do not instantly run to divide the place.

It just goes to show this was their goal all along.

Tess you probably think they would not rather be part of Europe and instead prefer to be Turkish, but the figures as Nikitas has posted, speak for themselves.

Dont hold your breath humanist, if anything like that was going to happen it would have done ages ago, TCs have been exposed to GC intrangience and mentality so they are much wiser today.

Stick with your current mindset and you are always doomed to be second to Turks.
