The following are some emails exchanged with some person who says he is interested in buying my car. Can someone tell me what this is all about?

Hello kafenes

You have been sent the following message:
Mitsubishi Colt For Sale)
******************** Message ********************

Hello,
i am interested in your car and so i will like to see some photos of
the car since i am having trouble seeing them on the website you posted
and also like to know if there's any problem or fault whatsoever with
the car. Is that the final price of the car? I am proposing
CY£3,500.00. Hope to hear from you soon.

Thanks,
Sydney

Hi Sydney

Thanks for the email. I am replying through my Cytanet account as it's easier to send attachment files. I am sorry the link to the pictures didn't work, I will try and fix that but in the meantime I have attached some pictures for you to see.
I am not a mechanic but as far as I know everything on the car functions A1. The engine seems to be in perfect condition. You are most welcome to take it for an inspection if you like.
The registration number of the car is KJG 864.
Regarding your offer of cy£3,500 I am willing to accept that.
I am situated in Paphos, close to the Fire Station and Orphanides Supermarket. If you have a problem getting to me for an inspection, I can drive it over to you as long as you're in the Paphos area.
You can call me on 99188889.

Regards
Kevork

Hello Kevork,

thanks for the email and the photos. I am satisfied with what i have
seen and i hope it's exactly what it looks like and what you have
mentioned. However, i will like to know how you wish to recieve payment for the car so that i can make the payment available to have the car brought to me.

Regards,
Sydney.

Hi Sydney

Regarding payment, even though I would prefer cash, if that is a problem, then I will accept a personal cheque as long as it's a local (not overseas) bank account.
Regards
Kevork

Hello Kevork,

thanks for the response and i am quite satisfied with your terms.
However, i want to inform you that the payment for the car is with a cheque. I have
informed a seller to make the payment available to you for the purchase as a
refund for an earlier cancelled transaction between us. The cheque is
for CY£6,640 and you are suppose to deduct the cost of your vehicle
CY£3,500 and send the balance when the payment clears with the bank to me. So i will need your address to give to the seller and have him send the payment to you as soon as possible.

Thanks and hope to hear from you soon to facilitate the transaction.

Regards,
Sydney.

Hi Sydney

No problems with the cheque. Please ask the seller to contact me by phone on 99188889 so that I can meet him in person to collect the cheque. Please also either email me or the seller your full address and passport number to help me fill in the transfer form of the vehicle.

Best regards
Kevork

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Kevork,

thanks for the mail and i am okay with what you have said, but i will need your address and the full name you want on the cheque so that i can send to the seller to have the cheque issued in your name. I have given him your phone number and he'll like to post the cheque to your address instead.

So i await your full details so that he can have the payment sent to you as soon as possible. I will email you my address later with my passport number when you have recieved the payment and the transaction is completed to make me the owner of the car.

Thanks and hope to hear back from you soon.

Regards,
Sydney.

Its a scam !! Ignore them.
Basicly he will send you a cheque for too much and ask you to send the remainder to his "shipping agent" by money transfer.
Eventually the cheque will bounce and you will have lost the money you sent. Beware !

Kafenes,

Burnley is absolutely 100% correct. People get screwed with this type of scam all the time. Ending your involvement with this person will most definitely be in your favor.

To test if he is genuine tell this fool to ask the “seller” to issue a cheque for just £3,500 in your name and for you to drive over and collect it, and once it clears you can then proceed with the vehicle transfer. As for the remainder of the £3,140 that’s his problem to collect entirely, as you are not his agent, or interested in getting involved. If he doesn’t accept these fair and simple terms then he’s not genuine.

OK throw a bait for this guy and see it it catches... say that someone has offered you 200 pounds more and that if he still wants it, he will have to match that price. If he agrees then bobs your uncle and it certainly is a scam..
