Car Road Tax

Postby Spinney » Thu Dec 13, 2007 12:11 pm

Hello there

Can anyone help as I am unsure where to Tax my car? and also if you buy a car in say February as I did, does the tax only last till 31-12-07,? in other words IS it Jan1 to Dec 31st?

May sound silly but totally unsure

Thanks

You're absolutely correct Spinney. Road Tax covers the period 1st January to 31st December.

You can renew it online (someone will have the link I'm sure) but last year I renewed mine in the Bank of Cyprus.

Hope this helps

You can renew your road tax every June i.e. 6 months or 12 months. This means that all road taxes expire at the end of the year. Now if you decide to renew for the following year 6 or 12 months this is down to you.
The road tax disk which should be on your windscreen states this, however it is in written in Greek.

You can tax a car from Jan 1st to either the 31st of June or the 31st of December ~ 6 or 12 months.

I wouldn't worry to much about it yet as Cyprus is very lax regarding the car tax situation ~ the renewal notice probably won't be sent to you until the end of January or possibly the end of February or you can do it on line from around the middle of January.

It's nothing like the UK where you could be prosecuted for going a couple of days over the month .

Obviously the police here will not do anything about your road tax not being renewed until around the beginning of March.

Already thought about doing it online?

Works probably from January on for the coming year. From Jan to June and from July to Dec.
I have done it several times for the last years. You can print your disc on your printer.

No ~ not stupid at all ~ if you don't know you ask ~ which you did and you can usually get the answer that's why forums are so useful.

When the time comes that you either get your renewal notice or you do it on line around the middle of Jan thats when you can worry about paying it ~ until then don't worry about it

They still send reminders for the road tax but just be aware they do not send reminders for your MOT which is due every two years. This also should be displayed in your windscreen
