They don’t like installations with multiple consumer units (i.e. one upstairs and one downstairs) either although the 85mbps and 200mbps versions can get around that.

I had something like 4 computers dotted around the house. Each one of those plugs was around £10-£20 obviously exluding the modem+router which we already had. Apart from having 2 electrical supplies which made this choice impossible, it worked out cheaper to drill holes outside and take the wires from one end of the house to the other. The great thing about it was that the speed remained the same.

I can't stand wireless internet, some people argue with me and say it is just as good saying if you put your wireless on certain radio waves. Just the reciever would probably cost you are £20+ each.

What do you mean 85mbs, 200mbs, we had one called 54g which I think only went 54mbs (and I could be mistaken). Which router+modem is capable of such networking speeds on a wireless frequency.

Not wireless - HomePlugs...

It seems that the 200mb/s ones are even available for consumer use, look:

The problem was I did not find many available for sale, this is the only link I found.

I am pritty unknowledgable in networks, but if I am correct ethernet only goes up to 100mb/s. Would n't your connection still only be restricted to 100mb/s due to the ethernet speed even with this 200mb/s homeplug?

You can buy them here in Cyprus…

Well, you can get 1000mbps network cards or gigabit cards for your PC along with gigabit hubs and switches.

However, the 200mbps is not just the speed but also the bandwidth remember – so if you wanted to have a number of PC’s running across a network at full speed (streaming video for instance) the bandwidth needs to be higher…

I get ya, as far as I know the fastest internet connection in Europe is in Sweden at 100mb/s (I believe). How would a homeplug connection at 200mb/s be utilized if your internet (if you have the luxery of living in Sweden) is 100mb/s. You could not possible use this all up, unless of course you had two swedish internet connection bandit.

But I think I get what you mean with having multiple computers running at full speed. It makes sense, just a bit hard to get my head around it. I guess you would need a lot of computers running at full speed to need 200mb/s connection.

Would you prefer having wired connections with your gigabit cards or would you prefer homeplugs?

What happens if somebody has a 3-phase system indoors, with the 2 electrical sockets being on a different phase? Would they still work or would you need an electrician to put them both on the same phase?
