TC raki/Ouzo is far better than Turkish Raki. Greek, well I had a very dry one, not to my palate. The only spirit I partake, and then only for medicinal use.

When in Cyprus, somehow I suffer from tummy upsets every evening. Thats my excuse. My family often worry about their cooking. I never told them the truth.

Do you stay in the "TRNC" ? :D

Oh. Thats alright then!
The first time I went to Scotland, at the B&B I asked for real porridge Oats cooked a la Ecosse. The land lady apologised saying 'they never keep the stuff'. 'Didnt I know we were in the lowlands?' she said.
Lovely lady went up the road and got some from her neighbors. I did refuse her offer of a 'full English'. I would have settled for a cup of coffee. Ah, the Romantic that is me. The following year I went there for my honeymoon.

They did not serve Ouzo there (just to keep on topic).

I am quite happy to drink tap water, but what am I supposed to do when I am out? :? I always have bottled water in the fridge for family and guests.

:? Ever heard of recycling? Our family recycles everything we can so our bins hardly have anything in them. If only the rest of Cyprus could give it a go..................

Bubbles x 8)

yeah, it's time CY wake up and start recycling.
you already got some malls i heard.
look, you are westernizing! let's start a complaint thread about malls!
what next? animal rights to hit CY?!!!! a girl can dream, can't she?

@ Bubbles . . . re-using bottles to store in the fridge or use to take out with you is clearly not an issue.

@ GG Don't go off the rails, but the USA are the worst offenders in material waste.

perhaps yes, but at least we recycle. and have for years.

Re cooking with ouzo, I already gace a recipe with rabbit on another thread started by Cheshire Cat. Rabbit provencale flambeed with ouzo or Pernod, and simmered in white wine with crushed tomatoes and olives.

Try this too: devein and clean medium sized shrimp (fresh or frozen but thawed and at room temp.), In a little extra virgn olive oil, over medium heat, saute a little garlic and some parsley, put in the shrimp and turn a couple of times, then pour in a shot of ouzo and light it up. Serve the flaming things hot.

We get ouzo koulourakia from our local bakery here in Athens, but not being at all capable with pastry cooking I wont venture a guess as to how they do them. They are tasty though!
