Dyslexia at Work

Postby Sega » Mon Dec 10, 2007 1:48 pm

I have a dialema, hopefully somebody will be able to help me.

I know a person who suffers from dyslexia, the only problem is he is currently seeking employment in Cyprus. Taking into consideration how Cyprus is a small place were you might find small-minded people, what should this person do? It's highly likely that they would not even look at him especially is the person has a learning difficulty.

Hi Sega,

May I ask to what level his dyslexia affects him. Eg: reading, writing, numerical, conversational speech etc. What skills does he have? We all have some kind learning difficulty, but excel in other abilities. Some confidence and a pleasant smile make a huge difference to peoples attitudes, especially the Cypriots.

You cannot imagine how many dyslexic people we have.

Few years ago they deny even the fact that they had dyslexia like it was a shame. Now I know that people treat them quite fairly but as Phill said you have to say to what level his dyslexia affect his work.

Well basically this individual has done extremely well for himself. He has obtained a undergraduate and a research degree at an accredited university. Unfortunatly because he is anglophonic he is struggling to find work. His dyslexic does affect him mostly in spelling and the way he thinks. He seems to think differently to other people, his motoring skills are also affected. Unfortunatly at times he gets the wrong meaning of this, but he makes up with it by trying harder than others. As a result of the way he is he has low confidence.
