Who can tell what this is and what was it used for?
A small clue, it is from Cyprus and circa 1100 BC.

Looks like an earthen flask. From 1100BC and based on its size, I'd guess it was used to hold wine or oil for personal use/consumption?

It is an earthen flask but not for that reason.

From the wide 'mouth' part, I'd say its for gathering liquid and not only for pouring. What could be 'gathered'? Milk from a mother? or are men involved somehow? :?: :?:

Hi Kafenes,

Ok. Would you know if the inside is glazed?

Is it for perfume? Or some sort of oil?

Being such a small container it appears to be for personal use and the fact that it has no flat bottom suggests that it was intended to lie on its side. The opening is a dead giveaway that some kind of substance could be stored in it.

Taking all the above into account I’d have to conclude that it’s an ancient foot warmer, otherwise known as a “bougiotta” in Greek. :)
