"You really need to realize that the EU card will no solve your problems, the EU still bear a grudge for your rejection of the AP and entering the EU as a divided island with all the problems that entails and over the years they will learn about GC intrangience first hand. Papadop did not get you into the EU, he will go down in history as the leader that cried to get his people to reject the only plan that was put to the people.
Where as the EU gotten you over the past 3 years, nowhere they have passed the back to the UN, where you will find the AP that you have demonized as the basis for any future negotiaitons but even the UN are not interested in dealing with GCs who work on plans only to reject them and ridicule the UN."
Well VP, actually the EU in the last three years has gotten us quite far in ways few of us coul dhave foreseen. The Green Line regulations reinforce the RoC. The rejection of the EU acquis bty the north does the same, as it makes the RoC the only EU territory on the island that applies EU regulations. The VAT system for the day traders that come to the south reinforce the status of RoC as a state and weaken the north that does not want to apply VAT.
You say the EU has no interest in Cyprus. But the EU is involved in Cyrus up to its neck- Greece and the UK, two of the guarantor powers that must sign any agreement are both members of the EU. Cyprus is an EU full member. Whether anyone likes it or not Cyprus is now an EU matter and that is what Pap wanted and that is what he got. Turkey is the only player in the Cyprus issue who is not an EU member but wants to become one.
So? the question still remains you are no closer to a solution than you were before the EU who have told you they cannot solve anything go to the UN, so where has the EU got you? Ill tell you nowhere.
The green line only reconfirms the border between 2 countries and you have carried one major headache into the EU. Countries have already stated your entry was a big mistake and the resentment will grow over the coming years as the GC dig their heals in with regards to agreeing a solution showing that they are the intrangient side yet again who are not interested in compromise in the EU spirit.
Dont forget Papadop did not get you into the EU, he was handed it on a plate others did all the work.
Who said we dont pat VAT?
