I always encountered such a problem from the western. :-) I do not approve of killing dolphins, however, I have reservations about eating whale. Perhaps you can not understand it, but it is indeed a kind of Japanese culture.
As has been the tradition at the Millennium.

Hello Arios. Thank you for responding to my question which had nothing to do with your main topic.

I appreciate the practice of cultural traditions and Japan is particularly rich in this area.

However we have all had to reduce some of our traditions and modify them to fit in with the changing challenges of the environment.

Is the younger generation objecting to the whaling?

this problem is complex, I think. Indeed, we can see the young people in whaling protest on the issue. And also can see the same young people to eat whales. Of course, such the situation has ever improved. Because the whale meat is not tasty. I think...

You are correct . . . a very complex problem :D

I am really pleased to hear the young people are protesting on this issue. That means change will eventually happen.

There is a greater variety of foodstuff available now so hopefully they will stop eating whale meat if it's not as tasty as other food.

Arios thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions.

I wish you success in your Greek . . . and I think I will listen to Marios Frangoulis singing Theodorakis one more time

Arios, for me the issue isn't so much that you eat whales but the fact that you eat them raw! :?

Get Real! You are right. Indeed, many Japanese food is raw. In Japan ancient myths and legends. Eating whale can bring good luck, whale hunting is the Warriors behavior. Although it inhuman, but it is indeed traditional culture. Although there also many voices of opposition in Japan. But I do not think that it can soon be lifted. It's requires a process. Similarly, we also can not understand the Korean eat dog, the Chinese people eat cat and mouse. However, it is only protest, and not prevent it. I hope and believe that these habits will disappear in the future, but time can not be determined.

Arios your answer to Get Real! is very heartening but we have to make sure we do not reduce the numbers of certain species of whale to the point where they become inbred or even extinct :(

Is it time to abandon some Human traditions for the higher good?

HI phoenix, I think so , you are right. We must protect whales, can not let them disappear. Now I can only guarantee that I do not eat whale, and advise close friends.
