Cypriot alikes must further Hellenism...

Postby insan » Mon Mar 21, 2005 4:53 pm

The study and promotion of Hellenism are crucial, now more than ever. Greeks are center stage worldwide with recent developments in the Cyprus problem and last summerʼs Olympics in Athens. Greeks and Cypriots alike must further Hellenism among our institutions. We ask the Greek community to take an active role in this plight. It is imperative that the Modern Greek Department continues to advocate for the learning, preservation, and perpetuation of the Greek language, history, and culture. With your help, the HCA will accomplish such an ideal.

Is there any Turkish speaking Cypriot alike wants to contribute Hellenism furthering itself worldwide?

So, what does this mean to you Insan? A great conspiracy to reclaim past Greek lands?

It is about maintaining the cultural heritage of Greeks and Greece. That is what its about. This heritage that Turkey has systematically been destroying in the north of Cyprus, the looting and destruction of ancient churches, is one example.

The refusal of Turkey to open the Halki school and the recognition of the Patriarch is another. These are the things that these organisations are highlighting.

Respect for other cultures has not been a strong point of Turkey.

Between 1963-74 136 mosques, shrines and other precious Ottoman and Islamic antiquities has systematically been destroyed in South Cyprus. We haven't counted how many more was destroyed form 1974 until now. Is that also what is about? Destroying what belongs to Turks and protecting and furthering what belongs to Hellenes? You'll destroy theirs and they will protect yours.
