Both Greece & Turkey have got a lot to answer for.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

As for who is the better collonial power, well they are all bad because they are colonial, but compare Rhodos to Cyprus and see what the Italians left behind in Rhodos. The public works they carried out were phenomenal, and all in 30 years. The Italians must have spent hundreds more in Rhodos than they ever would get through taxation of its small population.

BC Numismatics, you have got the title of this thread completely wrong, it should read:-

BRITAIN, Greece & Turkey have got a lot to answer for.

Cyprus has been shagged and used by outside powers for centuries and when the island was "given" independence it was a poisoned chalice that led us to the situation we are in today.

Jerry, what has the U.K. got to answer for in relation to Cyprus? Unlike Turkey, the British did not engage in ethnic cleansing in Cyprus & import settlers.Turkey's illegal occupation of northern Cyprus has been condemned in the strongest possible terms by the British Commonwealth as well as by the U.N. & E.U..

The British Sovereign Base Areas of Akrotiri & Dhekelia has provided employment for a lot of native Cypriots - both Greek Cypriots & Turkish Cypriots. Those who live in the villages in the S.B.A.s have dual citizenship of both Cyprus & the U.K.

Here's a link that will be right up your street; http://www.sba.mod.uk .

Q. Why does the sun never set on the British Empire?
A. Because God doesn't trust an Englishman in the dark!

Utu,the correct saying nowadays is,'The sun never sets on the British Commonwealth',which is very true,as there is at least one part of the British Commonwealth that is located on every continent, including Antarctica.

THe trouble with Antarctica is that most countries do not recognize any of those claims (not even Ross Dependency, sad to say), and the British Antractic Territory is overlapped in claims from Chile and Argentina....

You have heard it here,everyone.
The British was in Cyprus to help us poor unfortunate souls learn how to administer ourselves in a civilised manner. They wanted nothing for themselves, got nothing, and left with plenty of goodwill...
And since they have been gone we returned to our subhuman ways and turned on each other. The colonial rule had nothing to do with it...It was the best we ever had. We better start appreciating it before we are called ingrates and thoughtless misfits...

Ross Dependency is the area of Antarctica that is under a New Zealand claim.Interestingly, there are stamps for the Australian Antarctic Territory,British Antarctic Territory, the Falkland Islands,South Georgia & the South Sandwich Islands,& the Ross Dependency.
