How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)
President Mehmet Ali Talat has underlined the need to immediately lift the international isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot People, as voiced by the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon.

Welcoming the UN Chief’s latest report to the UN Security Council, the President said `such a move will not only contribute to the efforts aimed at uniting the Turkish Cypriot people with the rest of the world but also to the efforts aimed at providing a solution to the Cyprus problem`.

The President’s words came during the opening ceremony of a branch of an international company in Lefkosa this morning.
Addressing the opening ceremony, President Talat said the opening of branches of international companies in the Republic will help the Turkish Cypriot People unite with the rest of the world.

The President said the lifting of the international isolation of the Turkish Cypriot people will not only help the Turkish Cypriot People unite with the rest of the world but will also contribute to the efforts aimed at bringing about a solution to the Cyprus problem.

`International companies are uniting the Turkish Cypriot people with the rest of the world and contributing to the solution of the Cyprus problem by opening branches in our country` he said, expressing the hope that such investments will continue in the future.
I think it was BigOz that said, "that the "TRNC" was not able to offer anything more to the world than they already do now".
Your above quotation is not written correctly....on purpose, I'm sure......so is he wrong Zan

Does Talat really talk that way. I mean, does he really repeat himself over and over again with the same topic. Must have gone to same school as George Bush.!!

I did not read anything about Uniting with the people of Cyprus, the South. Talked about the TC's uniting with the rest of the world, but not the South. Didn't VP tell us that lifting the isolation will level the playing field, that will help the island unite. Talat just said " it will also contribute to the efforts aimed at bringing about a solution to the Cyprus problem"......... like a Partition Perhaps.

Did anyone read, that the Secretary General is not a KING and therefore just cannot demand the isolation to be lifted. It needs to go in front of the Security Council. Personally, I do not see it passing for dozen reasons from the Russians to Chinese to the British. How can Britain vote for this, when they have Bases in the RoC. Do they have a "Death Wish" or what.?? As I said yesterday, there may be some back room deal cuttings with the involvement of the RoC to give Turkey some "Face Saving" room for limited lifting of the isolation, so that Turkey can advance to the next round with the EU talks and at the same time open her air space and Ports to the RoC. The RoC will go along with this, providing that Turkey will eventually pull out of Cyprus and without Partitioning the island. Call me cynical if you like, and I can see all the Partitionist lining up to do just that, but what ever deal is cut and it is outside any resolutions passed in the security Council, this will be the beginning of many moves for Turkey handing over the North back to the RoC in order to get into the EU, and the TC's will not have any say in it at all.

Would you say that this is the reason why the Papadopoulos Administration is pulling out all the stops to stop any type of outside contact with the north?

FOREIGN Minister Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis yesterday called on the UN to stop making an issue out of the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots, saying it was in fact a ‘non-issue’. Marcoullis was commenting on UN Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon’s latest report on Cyprus, which said it was regrettable that the ongoing debate on the lifting of the isolation had become one about recognition. Marcoullis said that if Turkish Cypriots felt isolated, it was a direct result of the Turkish occupation and the secessionist policies of the illegal Turkish Cypriot administration. “Efforts by the UN Secretariat to make an issue out of something which does not exist – the myth about a so-called isolation of the Turkish Cypriots – must finally come to an end,” Marcoullis said on her return from a visit to Israel yesterday. She also mentioned the current attempts by the authorities in the north to stop Turkish Cypriots from doing their shopping on the Greek Cypriot side. “This is what I would call isolation imposed by the Turkish Cypriot leadership on our Turkish Cypriot compatriots,” Marcoullis said. The Foreign Minister did however welcome Ban’s reference to the need for compliance with Security Council resolutions when it came to ending the so-called isolation. “This is a safeguard for us, we have never said we oppose the economic development of our Turkish Cypriot compatriots but everything should be done in line with legality,” Marcoullis added.

This exerpt from the Cyprus Mail sounds rather paradoxical. Typical governmental double-talk, deriding the UN for making an issue out of the T/C isloation, while stating that no such isolation occurs. This despite the fact that the UN has imposed the UNSC resolutions that the RoC uses to back up it case to the international community. Double-Talk, or Double-standards?

Humanist, like GR, you have such a narrow mindset. I am neither Turk nor Cypriot. I am Canadian, and I'm proud of that. And like most Canadians, I have a definite sense of right and wrong. Turkish military occupation is wrong, but so are the efforts of Tassos Papadopoulos to undermine and quarantine the north. Reconciliation is not going to occur under those conditions. Understand?

How's this for scenario. Talat says one thing his actions are opposite. The RoC allows free trade for the occupied Cyprus and equal footing in the EU. Do you seriously believe that Talat will go for unification and who misses out. Greek speaking refugees as they will never see thir property again whilst some Turkish Cypriots and settlers sell of their country to the British and Jews. I guess that is fair in your fair perception?
