It is an abbreviation of: -

“Do you honestly think that none of us here that live in Cyprus knew when the Euro comes into force and when the coins will become legal tender?”

No, you didn’t think did you?

The same thing applies in Malta, where the prices have to be shown in both Maltese Pounds & Euros.

Here's a link to the Maltese Euro changeover website; http://www.euro.gov.mt .

For a start, both Cyprus & Malta are both E.U. & British Commonwealth member states.Secondly, they both have a Pound currency that is divided into 100 Cents.Thirdly, they're both changing over to the Euro on the same day.

Here's a link depicting what the Maltese Euro coins look like; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maltese_euro_coins .

You will be getting those in your change.

I hope not ~ I want proper Cyprus coins and certainly wont accept coins from Malta

I'd give up if I were you aiden ~ you are acting like most people with a deep interest in a hobby and wanting to tell everybody about it ~ even if they already know or aren't particularly interested.

Yes the Euro is coming to Cyprus ~~ yes we all know about it ~~ and no we are not particularly excited about it .

In fact it's quite worrying that prices will go up much the same as they did in other countries that changed over to the Euro ~ not a pleasant thought.

The only thing interesting me is that I had the presence of mind to collect some brand new notes ( 200 pounds worth ) a few years ago ~ all with sequential numbers which may or may not be worth something in a few years time ~ if I last that long

I've already got a stack of euro notes ready for the change over that I had left over from a recent trip to Italy so I wont be rushing to the bank to get my euros .

I'll be heading back to Cyprus on Friday with UK pounds ~ Cyprus pounds and Euros in my pocket ~~~ which I think covers me for any eventuality :D

How much is a 36 Piastres silver coin dated 1901 worth ?

Bill, there's no such thing as a 36 Piastres for any date. The highest is 18 Piastres, that is until 1928,when a 45 Piastres crown was issued as the first Cypriot commemorative coin.

As for having a hobby, that's a very good thing.I've been collecting coins ever since I was a kid.

The Euro is worth the same,no matter what country issues it,which is why you will eventually get Euro coins from other countries in your change. The only Euro coins that you won't get in change are the ones from Monaco,San Marino,& the Vatican City, because the mintages are very low.
