Less than a month to go until the change over to the Euro.

Less than a month to go until the change over to the Euro.

It is less than a month to go until the Cypriot Pound begins to be replaced by the Euro.

Is anyone over there in Cyprus looking forward to this?

The coin collectors both in Cyprus & other countries will be excited,as the collectors in the Eurozone will be checking their change.

The banks will be happy

Postby eric » Mon Dec 03, 2007 5:36 pm

I am sure that the banks don't mind the change to the euro. Today I ordered a new cheque book for the euro, because the cypriot pounds one you can't use anymore. I had to pay about 4 pound for a new cheque book. Can you imagine how much they earn if all their customers have to order a new cheque book, because the pounds cheque book are not valid anymore.

That's one thing I can't get used to in Cyprus having to pay charges for every single minute transaction after enjoying totally free banking for so many years in the UK .

Yianna,we're also stung with bank fees on just about everything, including getting charged NZ$2 if you want to do an over the counter withdrawal from a bank branch over here in New Zealand.

It's is a good thing if you own property on the island as I think everything will jump up at least 10%. Unfortunately the shopkeepers take the opportunity to rip everyone off - like what happened in Greece and virtually every other country that entered the euro!

Do not worry, the problem is just the prices will go up by 30 per cent within one year- no problem we will still die at 89 years old

I am sure especially at the beginning that innocent people will get ripped off.

What will the government do to control this?

I reported once a bakery to the appropriate authority which was not giving small change back to customers... guess what?

Nothing happened.
