Unitary State, Confederation, or Federation?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Unitary State, Confederation, or Federation?

Postby utu » Sun Dec 02, 2007 9:53 pm

The recent postings where I was villified for the crime of a foreigner espousing federation as the solution to the Cyprus problem made me think: What do the majority of the people on this forum think is the best solution, and why?

As I see it - since independence for the north is apparently a non-starter - the three possible solution scenarios are: 1) a unitary state, 2) a federal state with a strong central government, 3) a confederal state with strong state governments and a weak central government responsible only for foreign affairs, defence, and monetary policy.

So the question is: where do you stand, and why you think your choice is the best one?

A unitary state within the EU, living within EU rules and regulations is the only solution which is just. As part of the solution all the people with ties to Cyprus must have the option to remain also.

The RoC is under no obligation to make special political arrangements for the Turkish Cypriots or anyone else for that matter. A modern democratic system complimented by EU membership is all that anyone could ever wish for. End of story.

Independence is not a non starter utu and the more the "RoC" digs its heals in the more likely it is going to be. Taiwan here we come....

The only other option is number three.

Don't worry about the GC right wing reception you are getting here........Only total agreement will do for them otherwise the gangs in trucks that ride in shooting and raping and the police that strip search the women for nothing, like they did to my mother, will be set loose once again...

Zan, how do you explain then that Turks are the ones who started it all, and the ones who killed 10s of thousands of Cypriots, while TCs lost barely a few 100s of people?

You go brainwash your children about "evil GCs". History shows a totally opposite image from the one you are trying to give.

The only solution for Cyprus is liberation. The one we never got from the British and Turkish colonialists.
So we can finally have a normal democratic country like all the rest in EU, without racist discriminations and divisions along ethnic lines.

When the TCs stop to be enticed by the "gifts" of great gains on our loss that the British and Turks promise to them (which they will never get) in order to divide and rule our island, then we can discuss solutions within democracy and equality of all Cypriot citizens that will fully satisfy any Turkish Cypriot that accepts to be an equal Cypriot and EU citizen, instead of an organ of foreign interests.

This is where decent people like utu come here and tell you that the propaganda you used to spread has been bypassed now. The internet gives them instant access to files before the 1974 you have been feeding the world for decades. They can see what you did to us and who started what so you can fart in the wind as much as you like. there isn't a single Tc here tthat does not hate you for the lies you are spreading..You have dne us out of our homes and of our rightful place in the republic and now you want more...No more...Enough is enough.
