Turkish Cypriots vow to blitz London with ads

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby brother » Mon Mar 21, 2005 3:59 pm

The isolation of the tc that we talk about lasted for30 years, and the recent opening of green lines and the 200 million or so you talk about does not even scratch the surface of what is required but here is an idea, why not isolate the south for 30 years and then open the green line and see if 200 million or so has much affect.

Did GC 'open the gates'?

-mikkie2- wrote:The fact that holidaymakers can come to the north via Larnaca is irrelevant as well? The fact that tourism in the north has been boosted significantly is also irrelevant? Is this what you call the isolation of Turkish Cypriots?

Did GC allow free travel back and forth accross the green line or were they forced to reluctantly accept this by the EU?

The current situation is that advertising of North Cyprus is happening in London. The discussion should be about the possible events occuring from this advertising, and their impact on the Cyprus Problem.

By going off topic by getting into "we did this, you did that" and generally taking "sides" - how does this move forward ?

Appologies for my off topic reply.

Our first concern is our survial as we live today. In my opinion it is unreasonable and nieve to expect us to not care about how we will survive today, in the jope that such 'not caring' will help us survive tomorrow.
I can certainly see how you consider anything that helps TC survive in the current status quo as being counter productive to a solution. In my view it is only counter productive to a solution that seeks to FORCE the TC community into submission. If you want a solution based on such force and believe that such a solution will lead to peace in Cyprus, that is your pergoative. If however you believe in the possibility of a solution that is the result of sincere agreement and acceptance- then the 'leveling' of the two communites , economicaly or politically does not hinder this it enhances it.

the offer is ammohostos and larnaca ports for import and export, its the best the t/c will get,it actually is being discussed in brussels today with the summit that will be going on.concering the border crossings it has a big impact on the north as will the green line regs approved by the eu will also if fully implemented and expanded further.even on the topic of direct flights if there can be a middle groung found(which thats what the eu is all about)even that can go thru, but unilaterally the t/c community will do nothing.

Sometimes i get the impression that TC's use the "poor TC" when it suits them. When the gates opened the TC's on the forum were all saying "look, we aren't poor contary to the GC Media", now you are back at saying "we won't survive without direct-contact". It seems everytime something happens that improves the TC situation something else comes along that is also required to stop starvation.

As an outsider i don't see that co-operating with the RoC in trade matters is being forced into submission.

"Force" of varying kinds has created the situation as it exists today ... there are lots of "if's" and "but's" we could say about what happened in the past but the current situation is that the RoC are offering items for co-operation which it appears the TC's are not interested in, preferring to only want direct-trade.

So what "you" want is to be left to your own devices trading with the world until "you" feel financially comfortable enough to being to negotiate ? I`m sorry but i cannot see negotiation starting once "North Cyprus" is financially comfortable as there will no longer be a need for negotiation with RoC as you have got all you need. Which would then create a permanent parition, something which i understood was not wanted by the majority of Cypriots.

Actually bigdutch its the tc calling for solution and tassos not rising to the challenge, so in reality stop putting words in our mouths when the situation is openly there for everyone to see coupled with the fact that tassos is constantly lying and trying to decieve the international community, the tc and his own constituents speaks for itself.

1) I couldn't agree more. I have tried to say this before in another post, but my wording seemed inadequate and it caused a mini-row again. This is a much better way of putting it.
2) I find it very hard to believe that any majority (either GC or TC) has reconsidered its preference for reunification and NOT PERMANENT PARTITION.

EDIT:

Brother, there's no need to get excited... Big Dutch, I think, was only referring to Viewpoint's definitive statements that TCs have changed their position from wanting reunification to favouring partition.

im sorry brother but tassos has offered i very nice package to begin bringing the t/c back from economic limbo that the turkish occupation has put you in,the offer of ammohostos and now Larcaca port as well would just be the begining of things to come, however the t/c and turkey have not budged making a entirely pure economic matter(which would be extremly beneficial to the t/c communitiy, because lets not forget with a settlement like ammohostos the 260 million euros would also be freed up to come to the north)into a political matter.im sorry i dont think you can blame t-pap for that.
