Postby Johnson&Johnson » Wed Nov 28, 2007 4:06 pm

am writing a paper on rural life in cyprus during the first half of the 20th century

does anyone know of any folk medicine which was used here back in the old days ?

i remember my mum putting olive oil in my ear for earache when i was a kid, and of course zivania rubs are always good for muscular aches and pains

anyone know any more ?

many thanks,

We were made to drink aniseed tea or chamomile tea when he had tummy aches.

Are you compiling this for a pharmaceutical company? :?

I hope they don't start patenting folk remedies as their own

My Cypriot neighbour told me that she used to dry and then powder myrtle leaves and use it in the babies nappies to stop nappy rash - and also in her husbands boots to prevent smells and atheletes foot!!

I don't know what it's called but my nan always used to boil some sort of leave on the oven and then bring it boiling to my room and leave it over night. Don't know what it was but it sure worked!
