How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

New negotiotions For Cyprus

Postby boulio » Thu Mar 17, 2005 8:45 pm

There seems to be a new initiative begining for resumptions of talks for a cyprus solution based on the Annan Plan.Media reports in cyprus, greece and turkey have been reporting it today it seems things will pick up after the "presidential"elections in the north and hit a high point with the English taking over the EU presidency on July 1.What changes would both sides like to see to Annan 5(which i Assume will be the basis for negotiotions)and people lets be realistic and not ask for the world from both sides.I would like to see it in points with just a brief explanation if possible, not whole pages.

PS were is alexandros when you need him.

Today the news said that Papadopoulos had asked Annan a month ago to start a new initiative.

Papadopoulos made the appeal at a press conference after talks with the visiting Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski. "We presented a proposal last month to UN Secretary General Kofi Annan to start a new initiative (of talks)," Papadopoulos told reporters.

MicAtCyp
The negotiations will start ONLY when EVERYBODY agrees that the Anan Plan cannot be their basis.

What do you think now MicAtCyp????

Nobody knows what the basis of new negotiations will be until they begin. I would hold fire on this one!

I think we should use the 1960 constitution as the bases/backbone of the new discussions to find a solution, forget the annan plan it sucks and should be buried forever.

We can live in hope but all seriousness i think they can, it only needs a bit of tweeking up and would be a sound bases to get our solution, in effect we would be taking off where we left all those years ago.

I think the only negotiations need to be on "small" items of integration eg freeing up the trade process through the RoC and opening the famagusta port for joint administration.

As more and more of these "small" items start to get working, the final "target" of no partition will seem easier and easier to achieve.

yes, slowly slowly catch your monkey :D comes to mind, you see the whole thing to be achieved in one swoop is so hard but bit by bit will make it so much easier, but as many have said on this forum it needs goodwill.

I'm not sure the 1960 constitution was much better Brother... having read through it during the past couple of weeks it was a crazy system of checks and balances that just invited deadlock and encouraged ethnically-divisive voting. I'm not sure we want to go back to that.
