Look here young lady, 'the presence or absence of luck in a game of Tavli between good players is the salt and pepper of the game. Thats the beauty of it. Are you challenging me then?

I mean real game at some point Deniz...not on line words  but yes you can take that as a challenge!

Finally showing your age then GR? No special wrist action for the throwing of the dice then? ...or was that Phoenix attribute?

Aside from Chess I've yet to come across any board game worth playing, so no…I don't have the Tavli fever as I don't find games of luck challenging.
.

Too macho for you? Too Cypriot perhaps? Cypriots love taking chances and trying their luck. There is also more to it than luck.

Err, too dumb is a better description for Tavli as the game relies 100% on luck... there's no skill whatsoever involved as the dice constantly determine your limited options. It's not by accident that it was popular among the old and uneducated peasants in coffee shops.

I can take you to dozens of pubs, clubs, and other joints and I'll bet you won't find a single all-male table sharing a bottle of wine here in Cyprus! It's just the way it is here... men on their own always go for beers, Scotch, or Zivania but never wine.

Phoenix how can you possibly think this man is a Grandmaster??? Methinks you like the idea of skimpy jello wrestle for GR? I'm afraid you'll have to get another partner, my jello wrestling days are over!

I do apologize Niki, I often forget your conservative tendencies so may I suggest a crochet stitching competition for you in your raincoat and Wellington boots? :?

Don't forget my 1000 denier tights.

I like men who know good wines. My male Cypriot neighbour has been converted to good red wines since he started socialising with us. He also loves whiskey, he has about 100 types in his bar. I like good malt whiskey but it makes me fell really awful in the morning so I steer clear.

Eerr! Does too dumb, define your typical Cypriot then? This wonderful game is played all over the world by lots of old and uneducated men? Get out a bit GR. You live in your little blinkered world of so called 'super intellectuals'. Its the young who play this game and cary it on till old age.

I admit chance takes part in this game , but combined with tactics and strategies, and the good/bad/ luck element, makes this game a winner.
To see some great strategist loose the game at a throw of the dice, is worth enjoying. That is imho.

Niki . . . I can go worse than that. I'm wearing woolly tights (it's cold here) from Marks & Spencer. The only saving grace is they're black!

. . . . and this morning, at the school gates, I was swapping "Victoria Sponge" recipe tips with a lady from the "Women's Institute" (Actually the "sponge" reference is an acceptable euphemism for what we really discussed . . . but you get the picture 8) )

And this is all after freeing myself of the "blue stocking" label . . .
. . . surely it can't degenerate further?

Do you remember the cartoon Andy Capp, and his wife with the stockings rolled down to her knees? and the cigarette hanging from her lip . . . Yuck!

We're on a slippery slope . . .
