Male.

I want to have kids (well not me, but my wife, that is when I get married) because I come from a big family and I love raising children, I did a great job on my little brother.

I don't see a decline in birth rates as a good thing. What happens if it continues? Environmental catastrophes can only go away if more people come up with ideas to prevent them.

Some believe (not me) that global warming is all down to what would have happened anyway without human intervention. I believe that oil companies are preventing technologies in assisting the environmental issue.

Seriously, what would the literacy rate be for the illegal Turkish settlers? :?

Good point you have made there phoenix

If we had some idea of literacy rates in Turkey, they may be an indicator.

However, it would be interesting to compare and see if the settlers had a higher rate of illiteracy than the mainlanders . . . suggesting Turkey may be sending over its more troublesome sections of the population.

The settlers have a higher rate of something but certainly not literacy. If I were you, I would try increasing the fertility of the Gcypriot male. Get my drift. Otherwise you also will be outnumbered never mind TCs.

Sega wrote:I was under the impression that the total population of Cyprus was 780,000. Unfortunatly the GC population is not really increasing that much, some leave the country, however most don't mass-multiply.

The actual facts can be seen on https://www.cia.gov/library/publication ... os/cy.html. As you can see the birth rate is kind of low. I feel it is a real problem, most are discouraged in having children due to financial reasons or maybe feel that by not having children they will remain young. Who knows? Personally I would love to have kids.

Link is not working for me :(

There is an interesting and informative study conducted by researchers from the Peace Research Institute, Oslo (PRIO) called "Beyond numbers : an inquiry into the political integration of the Turkish settlers in northern Cyprus" It is a little bit dated now as it ws published in 2005. You can download it from :

http://www.prio.no/page/Publication_details//9429/46909.html

The first chapter of this surveys population data for the north.

You can find official UNESCO/World Bank data here on literacy rates in Turkey :

http://devdata.worldbank.org/edstats/SummaryEducationProfiles/CountryData/GetShowData.asp?sCtry=TUR,Turkey

And for Cyprus here :

http://devdata.worldbank.org/edstats/SummaryEducationProfiles/CountryData/GetShowData.asp?sCtry=CYP,Cyprus

The headline figures for adult literacy are Turkey 87.4% (2005) and Cyprus 96.8 % (2000). The percentage of GDP spent on public funding of education is 3.6% for Turkey (2005) and 6.3% for Cyprus (2005).

Hi Verto

Sorry about the very late reply but I must make a small comment if you don't mind.. Cyprus is a very small Irland that has gone through hell and back, the Cypriot people have the right to feel proud and protective of there beautiful Island.. The Cypriot kids are seeing into the future and they do not like it one bit and neither do we, meaning us British cypriot kids, we worry just like them coz we see exactly what they see, another governmental F**k up.

This is a message for all you proud greek cypriots, you are not alone, as much as you never thought much of us British Cypriots, we are here to and we are sticking by you even if we are not living in Cyprus and we care.

There are more of us then you think we cypriots are every where and no one can get rid of us no one can over lap us or try to get rid of us..

Peace XX
