One for Boomerang,
These days in Greece there is a big hullabaloo about the pensions mess. Pensionable ages are getting upped yet again, from 58 a few years ago it will go to 68, crisis looms for some pension funds in 2017 etc etc.
While this is going on, the biggest radio station had a report from Cyprus to coincide with the visit of Pap to Athens. It reported how in Cyprus the annual per capita income is at 89 per cent of the EU average, all EU regulations are applied smoothly, how public hospitals in Cyprus exceed the standards of even the best Athens private clinics, the welfare benefits to all workers including immigrants, etc etc. One listener called in and naively asked "if they are doing things so well why dont we get Cypriots to run our minsitries?". I loved it.
Pap while here visited the village of Artemis which was burnt in the fires of the summer. The RoC is rebuilding the whole village and the work is already under way. It is the first village to be rebuilt. All architects and engineers involved are Cypriots.
