it kind of reminds me of my countries history with slavery. it would be a little ridiculous for the blacks to continue to hold a grudge against the whites, just because at one point, we kept them as slaves.
GG,
First of all, all those attacking you with insults and swearing are being idiots. If they wanted you to understand their point of view, they should be educating you on the situation in Cyprus, rather than be hateful. On the other hand GG, you cannot just brush aside the the property issues, occupation, violation of basic Human Rights and so on to large numbers of Cypriots by asking everyone to forget about it, and to top it off, you have insulted all the blacks in the USA but telling them to forget about being kept slaves for few hundred years that ended around 1861. The blacks not only have a right to remember the slavery, and worse, what they faced after the slavery was over. As far as the blacks were concerned, slavery never ended but continued for another 100 years until the civil rights movement in the 1960's. The major problems today in the Black community are the residual of injustices they had accrued over the last 300+ years in the hands of the whites. So for you to make a statement that it is ridiculous for the blacks to hold grudge against the whites over slavery as well as violation of the basic Human Rights until around 1960's, and even today, many injustices are encountered by the blacks, just because you are a white person who is not faced with their daily struggles to come close in understanding their past and don't want to hear their complaints sounds like you are also asking many Cypriots to accept what has happened with the occupation and move on, just because you are not a Cypriot and do not understand struggles imposed on them. You may not be very privileged to be wealthy GG, as you have told us before, but you have never as an American White woman had to go through the discrimination and abuse as many of your countryman did, particularly the Blacks and other minorities in America's History, and lets not of course forget the Native Americans. The only thing you had to fight for was to be able to vote and equality between the sexes.
