I would like also to know about your friends what kind of heating do they have ~~ just to see which heating method is more popular .

In my very extensive circle of friends throughout Cyprus I only know of two that have central heating in their homes.

My home in Cyprus is a flat ( a very cold one in winter ) although I'm looking for a house at the moment ~ out of all the houses I have looked at since June only one has had central heating installed.

You must be kidding me...

We have gas (is not common in Cyprus)

And most of my friends have oil/petrol c/h and only one that I personally know has electricity...and is very expensive that way as far as I know!

I find the split system , A/C in summer and Hot in winter works perfectly well during those cold winter nights in Cyprus , the trick is to have them all on in every bedroom and every room , even if not used , in order to keep cold "pockets " out . The houses in Cyprus usually are not well , if at all , insulated , where in the UK all houses are well insulated so once inside the house you dont feel the cold .
I personally NEVER feel the cold since my body is well insulated with red wine which radiates so much heat , the trick here though is a bottle every night and early to bed !!

Bill we are also looking for a house, We may go for new buid(i know a lot dont like them) you can haggle to get CH and better insulation round doors .And i would also ask for a bidet.I spoke to a devolaper last year and he said it was easy to do at no extra cost he said it was the first time he had been asked.(just hate the bin paper thing.)You do get used to it when i come back to scotland i have to think about where to put it. The extra water may be a issue. sorry back to CH I think oil may be the best choice.

You should be able to flush paper in a new-build house...

house freezing

Postby Avanapa » Thu Nov 22, 2007 11:52 am

We can.t put paper in the loo. We were actually under the impression that with new builds it was possible to do this but after staying in the house for a week, by the end of the week it was blocked and required a plumber to clear it. When cleared, it was paper that was coming out into the cess pit. Apparently its the actual cess pit inlet pipes that cause the problem and not the house pipes.

Yes thats right the pipes in the new builds are big its the cess pit it will be a few more years before all can cope.
So bidet may still be good.

Most houses unfortunately do not come with central heating as new built, developers are v.tight.

The houses in Cyprus usually are not well , if at all , insulated , where in the UK all houses are well insulated so once inside the house you dont feel the cold .

I can second this. Especially the new build houses in the UK (ye fair enough they might not have thick walls) but my gosh are they well insulated. Even when you turn the heating off it remains warm, amazing!!

Developers sometimes forget things you tell them, make sure you chase them up. I had a very bad experience with a developer, I ordered several things and he forgot to put them all in. The main thing is that you can communicate, my developers did not even answer the phone. The reply was "the person will call you back", kinda pointless since they never did.

If you want ur house super insulated get them to build it as they do in England with double walls and foam. Go and question a few developers in the UK, understand how they do it and go back and request it from the Cypriot developer. Even if it comes more expensive it is well worth the price difference. You might been to bring some materials for them to be able to proceed from the UK, depending on whether they have them in Cyprus.

I see people are freezing? Where? I sleep with my bedroom door open and it's lovely. This is not cold, this is EXCELENT. 15 degrees at night it's perfect for me sleeping.
If you freeze in your house might be due to two reasons:
1. you are used to the hot weather
2. your house has plastic walls.. or paper wals.

As long as the water doesn't freeze living in Cyprus is excelent, I only need heating for 3-4 weeks when the temperatur goes around 5 degrees.

Visit some other countries to see what cold means. Today is still hot. 8)

P.S. I'm planning a swim for next week, on my country's day. Hope it won't rain.

Mostly in Edinburgh and visited the High Lands too. We did not find Nessy but we enjoyed it! :D

What Sega said about new buildings is true. Most houses do not come with C/H but you can ask from them to do it for you with extra few thousand pounds.

As for the toilet paper, you do not through it in the toilet for sure, but you put a nice small bin with a bag inside next to the toilet and put your paper in every time you visit the toilet...and dont forget to change the bag regularly.
