PARTITION-CAN WE ACCEPT IT

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Sun Mar 27, 2005 6:24 pm

There is no logic in this. Cyprus is the black sheep of Europe and decisions are now taken behind our back. On Friday the negotiations between the European Commision and Turkey, regarding the protocol, were completed and Ankara managed to get rid of the time limits for signing and implementing the agreement, despite our insistence that implementaion must immediately follow the signing. Ankara managed to delete from the text of the agreement everything that was written about the use of ports and airports. This shows that the EU is taking Ankara seriously and does not even bother to consult with Cyprus, despite being a member of the EU. This is very worrying and I cannot see how this trend can be reversed when no one takes us seriously any more. We are discretited in Europe and in the UN and this can only bring more misery.

The european future of Turkey cannot be hindered by a government which is discretited. Even the other day, Papadopoulos was litterally told he was a liar by the UN Secretariat when he claimed that a month ago he sent to the SG a letter asking him to convine talks on Cyprus. This is unheard of in international relations and in any other country in Europe it would have sent waves of political unrest, but alas, not in our banana plantation, where the government only cares to win points for internal consumpion.

But still a liar who is respected by no one in the E.U, to me it would seem more important to protect the integrety of my country, which is a job entrusted upon him by the loyal taxpaying people of cyprus.

In the real world no respect means you are a nothing and ever so much more true in politics.

This has everything to do with me as he is the one the tc will be negotiating with to bring unification to our island and if he is a liar and untrustworthy how far will the negotiations go, let me tell you not far at all.

Many cypriots crave for leaders that will be honourable people who will do right for us all but unfortunately i do not think tassos is that person.

Bananiot,

I would very much like to know how Ankara removed or deleted part of the text in the protocol, which is a document that was agreed by all 25 EU members, prior to Turkey getting hold of the text.

Customs Union by definition means the free flow of goods and people, which by definition requires transport, which by definition means by land, air and sea.

So, how can references to transportation be removed from a protocol that fundamentally requires these?

I think reports coming out from Turkey seem to be for internal consumption.

Getting back to the topic of partition...............
As long as there is some kind of line seperating the two communities, allowing each to walk and live freely without fear, with a recognised port and airport and no trade embargoes, then call it what you want, . partition, federation, seperation, segregation, ghetto, enclave, the other bit or just a line............sounds good to me.

Judging from from attitudes of many on this forum i would want to live in our bit. I dont want a bullet in my head thanks.

By acting illegally there are more chances that one day you will get punished. Bullets travel from "bit to bit". Separation doesn't make anybody safer, only justice and peace will.

basically for the last thirty years, no turk has taken a greek bullet, no greek has taken a turkish bullet. This has not been acheived through the good grace of your peace or your justice, but by the presence of the TA.

We tried your peace and justice and in only 14 yrs, thousands and thousands died, both us and you.

If putting an end, to the most horrific ultimate crime, (murder/mass murder), is seen to be illegal, then who needs laws?
