What do you lot do with your electricity?
Detached, two bed house, two adults.
In the last twelve months our highest electricty bill for a two month period was just over CY£25 for two months.
Our gas bill for heating was CY£180 for the whole year!
We used four gas cylinders for cooking, at CY£6 a pop!
Seriously how the hell do you lot use so much energy?

By the way, if you've got plasma telly's, take a look at the power consumption, they use more than a A/C unit!

As I've said, everything is electric from the cooker to the air con. 2 PC's on 24/7, TV's, the lighting we have can't use energy saving bulbs, the pool, the hot water switch (until the weather gets alot cooler). That's where it goes.

I can understand Twinkle with the pool and everything, but £25 for 2 whole months? Really? My parents are like nutty with saving electric and still end up with about £35. I'm thinking though that electric cookers probably don't help.

Cheers

i agree, we have a four bedroom house in larnaca and i dont think we have ever paid more than £30 for 2 months including the swimming pool on constantly! fit modern central heating you are better off in the long run, it costs £90 for the big gas bottle and we dont manage to use it up in the winter! it cost £2500 for the central heating system to be installed thats the boiler all the radiators etc.

cost of living

Postby Avanapa » Tue Nov 20, 2007 2:46 pm

It has to be down to lifestyle. Although I,m not in Cy permanently yet, all my brit neighbours are. All of them live similar lifestyles which I would describe as comfortable. They all have confided in me what their outgoings are and its a million light years from here in the UK. One couple told me that their monthly income between them is CY950.00 and that they can still put Cy350-CY400 in a savings account evey month. There are so many contrasting stories regarding cost of living on these forums but the neighbours I have are always consistent in their estimations of the cost of living in Cyprus. Of course they are all mortgage free and only have living expenses to contend with.

i must admit i agree, when me and the mrs came out of holiday mode we also can get by on £500 a month, it`s not bad at all.
