Alright, those flags do have a purpose and unfortunatly for the person who ordered them there they are not doing their job.

Basically all GC who go to Nicosia see the statement and it has two reasons for it's existance, the first reason is to remind the GC what they have lost and the second reason is to remind them who took it from them. Sorry to be so blunt. It's overall purpose is to insight hatred, suprisingly the statement even shows up at night.

The reason I feel the purpose has failed is because I see tens of Turkish-Cypriots everyday in Southern Cyprus and I have never felt hatred or seen anybody say anything bad about them when they pass each other. All the symbol does to the GC community is make our highways more interesting.

Apparently this new flag (2nd Pentadaktylos flag) is meant to be massive it only recently went up, I think it is suppose to be facing Turkey, that's probably why I have not seen it.

What is the purpose of the Giant Flags of the Pentadakylos. What will it achieve? If the Northern Government is seriously intent on Peace talks or Re-unification, is this the right approach? Isnt it just provocation?

It mainly is a knee-jerk reaction to the embargo and isolation. When visitors to Cyprus see the flag on the hill, then they start asking about it, which leads to their learning about the north. So it is a statement of existance, plus a ginormous finger to the south. Not exactly a subtle symbol

If its any consolation there was a lot of people here that DIDNT want the flags, but as usual the protests fell on deaf ears.

Really don't see what all the fuss is about, we can put as many flags as we wish in the TRNC whats it got to do with GCs or the "RoC". They are facing north towards Turkey and a sign of our good relations with those that not only support us financially but are always morally by our sides. Why should we put up flags of GC states run by GCs for GCs.
